Aspire- Events

In January Aspire launched a group intervention that combines sport and nurture. It is run by a teacher who is funded by our federations sports funding. Six vulnerable and challenging pupils from key stage two access this every afternoon for 6 weeks. Based on the Early learning principles of effective learning and the nurture principles the children have been learning how to regulate themselves whilst facing some sporting challenges. The weeks are planned to support, teach and then manage their transition back into the classroom. Their progress is measured by Boxall.

The impact has been
Measures improvement to emotional wellbeing for pupils
Improved understanding of their own challenges and use of taught strategies
Renewed enjoyment of school
Effective use of taught coping phrases - ie I need a minute.

The above has been the impact on the pupils.

On the staff involved
Changed their views on how to manage behaviour
Extreme job satisfaction
A real passion for learning.

This idea was put together by my team and I. We know to continue to meet the needs of all our pupils we need to think out of the box. This is our answer …. For now.

Aspire Federation 2025.

For the second year Aspire opened the school year with our own conference, an away venue, lunch provided, staff nominated annual awards, long service badges awarded.

The focus - enabling all to flourish. A focus on the pupils and adults - enabling all to find their own path

A sharing of vison, an inspirational speaker, discussion groups and a celebration of what we do and an agreement of what we need to improvement

Plus some statutory safeguarding training.

Not bad at all for 4 small rural schools

This is what I dreamt of 10 years ago when I started my exec head journey. We still have much to do but sometimes it is worth reflecting on where we have come from ……..

Apologies we have been quiet recently. We have been working on some other projects. We have recently committed to doing a series of training events for another local authority.

Our most popular training seems to be developing subject leaders in the small school.

Today we held our first Aspire conference- for a group of tiny rural schools it felt like a real achievement to be in an actual conference centre.
We reflected on our journey so far and made plans for the future. We awarded our first staff aspire awards - colleagues nominating colleagues.
We discussed spiritual development and focused on inspirational inclusion.
I came away proud to be leading such a great team.
Here’s to the school year 2023-24.

Aspire have had a very busy term !! Putting on event, speaking at conferences and of course running the schools. We are also providing interim leadership at an additional school.
The world of education is bleak at the moment. It is even more important that we support each other. It’s the only way to survive. We are four small schools offering support to other small schools.

As we reach the half way point in the spring term, we need to make sure we take a break. Leadership is rewarding and exhausting.

We have enjoyed working with the schools we have connected with this term.

The start of the term at Aspire has been manic !! We are providing interim leadership at another school and fulfilling our bookings, in addition to of course teaching and leading the four aspire schools !!

We hope you are all keeping warm !! Three of our four schools are closed today due to impassable roads. Some time working at home as given us time to reflect ( and return to online teaching ! ).

This week I have been reading some research. I read it formulate some questions based around it and then ask the subject leaders to review and identify next steps for aspire. We then discuss. It has had a good impact on the quality of our curriculum and has broadened the knowledge of our leaders. Do you use research to influence your practice ?

A busy week for aspire. When are we not busy in schools ?! We travelled to another LA to support a school with subject leadership and mixed age teaching in year R/1. We have also been supporting a local school with their preparations for OFSTED.

A highlight of this week was our pupils who spoke at the diocese cathedral day on the subject of injustice. Their words reduced some of the diocese staff to tears. Makes all the hard days worth it.
