I’m often asked about book recommendations. Here’s a good place to start. Reading widely has so many benefits across the whole curriculum - developing vocabulary, helping develop ideas for writing and allowing us to hear different voices from around the world. And remember, many of these new books will be available in the library. Get reading!

Kent Test Applications - 1st June! Now that Term 5 is coming to an end, many parents will be thinking about the move to secondary school for their children. Everyone want to be sure that their child is 'secondary-ready', especially after a year of so much disruption for schools. For some, that might mean entering their children for the Kent and Medway tests or making sure that their child finishes primary school as a confident learner. Please get in touch to see if I can help with face-to-face or online tutoring.
Springtime sunshine! Now that the summer terms have begun, many parents will be thinking of the next academic year and of maximising the opportunities for their children. As the COVID 19 regulations change, I will shortly be able to offer a return to face-to-face tutoring as well continuing to teach over Zoom if that is preferred. Please get in touch if you would like me to help support your child’s learning and build their confidence.

“How can I help at home?” Is a question I’m often asked by parents. The most important thing that parents can do is to read to, and with, their children and give them access to good quality, enjoyable and challenging books. Although the picture below shows very young children, sharing and enjoying books becomes increasingly important as children move through the primary years, to help them meet the challenges of reading independently.
Read aloud to your children to boost their vocabulary Shared reading has many benefits. Among them, it can help your child develop a bigger vocabulary.
Below is a link to a video presented by Craig Barton (maths teacher and author) supported by Harriet from Eedi.com, to answer common questions about how to support children in Year 6.
There are two main messages. Firstly, be positive with your children about maths and your own maths experiences. Secondly, you don’t have to have all the answers, you just need to know where to look for resources that can help your child. Have a look!
