Eight intrepid Year 6 mathematicians recently travelled to Oakwood Park Grammar School to compete against more than 20 teams from local schools in a challenging maths competition. Working in teams, the pupils put their mathematical skills, teamwork and lateral thinking to the test, tackling a range of problems requiring both speed and accuracy. Well done to all involved for representing the School so brilliantly!

Last Friday, pupils and their families came together for our Back to School BBQ, enjoying great food, fun games and the chance to catch up with friends.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Parents’ Football Match between Pre-Prep and Prep. With a record number of parents taking part, two matches were played for the first time ever! One finished in a thrilling 2-2 draw, while the Prep parents secured a 4-0 victory in the other.

Played in great spirit and, thankfully, injury-free, the matches were a fantastic addition to a wonderful community event.

A huge thank you to the Prep School Parents’ Association for organising such a successful afternoon.

Year 6 travelled to Tenterden for an unforgettable evacuation experience, discovering what life was like for children during the Second World War.

From learning about rationing, the black market and wartime cookery (including the surprising idea of making chocolate spread from potatoes!) to boarding a steam train and journeying to a remote Welsh village, pupils gained a fascinating insight into the experiences of evacuated children.

Meeting billeting officers and exploring the challenges faced by young people during wartime brought history to life.

A fantastic day of learning, and always one of the Year 6 highlights of the year!

A fantastic week of hockey saw pupils showing great progress, determination and teamwork across a number of fixtures and tournaments.

The Boys’ U11B demonstrated clear improvement in their second match, producing a strong all-round performance with solid defending and positive attacking play. At the Spring Grove Tournament, the Boys’ U9A impressed with their outstanding team spirit and sportsmanship, supporting one another throughout the day.

The Girls’ U11C also performed admirably in their tournament, competing with enthusiasm and resilience while earning recognition for both attacking and defensive efforts.

Well done to all involved for representing the school with such positivity, commitment and teamwork.

Year 3 pupils have been developing their drawing skills through an exciting art project inspired by the vibrant murals of artist and activist Matt Willey. Through careful observation and creative techniques, the children have explored line, pattern and detail, producing striking artwork that reflects both their growing artistic confidence and imagination.

Family has been the focus of learning in Nursery this week.

The children have enjoyed sharing special memories of grandparents and discussing the activities they love to do together, while also exploring different types of homes and creating their own using a range of materials in Nursery, the garden and Forest School.

Alongside this, they have been building family trees, developing fine motor skills through activities such as threading and Dough Disco, and linking their Maths learning on 2D shapes and quantities to the people in their families.

Last Wednesday, our Year 5 and 6 girls' hockey teams faced Kent College Canterbury in their first fixtures of the season, with A, B and C teams all taking to the pitch.

The players were supported by two talented Senior School hockey players: Cian N, an U16 England Hockey Trialist and Sevenoaks 1st XI player, and Harriett W, who represents Holcombe 1st XI and the TA programme. Their support helped create a positive and encouraging atmosphere, demonstrating the strong sense of connection and mentorship between pupils across the school.

Year 2 enjoyed a day at the Big Cat Sanctuary last Tuesday, giving them the opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life in a real-world setting.

During a hands-on workshop, pupils learned about wild cats and their habitats, handling artefacts including skulls, claws and teeth. After lunch, they toured the sanctuary, spotting lions, jaguars, cheetahs and many other species.

Judging by the smiles on their faces, our Year 2 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day and all the opportunities it offered.
