Year 6 Boys Football Team

On Thursday, the St. John's boys UKS2 football team took part in the 7-a-side summer tournament at Greenfields school. There were 20 teams in total split into 4 groups.

After the group stage of 4 tricky games we won our group, with 3 wins and a draw. In the quarter finals we played Bredhurst and beat them 2-0, before facing another tough team in Greenfields. This was a really cracking, tight game where we emerged as 2-1 victors.

We then found ourselves in the final against Aylesford who had come second to us in the group stage. After a nervous and hard fought game it ended 1-1. That of course meant facing the dreaded penalty shot out..... which despite the odd miss and save on both sides, we won!

We are so proud of the boys, a terrific effort! This season we also won our area league and came 2nd in the 6 - a-side PASS tournament at Aylesford in early February.

A fantastic year for us. Well done to you all.

Upcoming Night-Time Lane Closures and Bearsted Road Closure (22 June – 10 July)

Working hours: Overnight, approximately 20:00–06:00 (Monday–Friday only)

What to Expect:

Lane Closures 22nd – 26th June: Night-time lane closures will be required in the vicinity of the A249/Next roundabout to facilitate the installation of ducting for traffic signal crossings and street lighting.

Traffic management arrangements will vary throughout the week depending on progress and the location of the works. Short diversion routes may be required at certain times, including via the KIMS roundabout, to safely maintain traffic flow around the works area.

Traffic will continue to be maintained through the area, with all temporary arrangements clearly signed on site.

Bearsted Road Closure (29th June – 10th July): From Monday 29th June to Friday 10th July, overnight road closures will be required on Bearsted Road between the A249/Next roundabout and the KIMS Hospital roundabout.

The road will be closed overnight only, Monday to Friday, and will reopen each morning. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closures, as shown on the attached drawing: Bearsted Road Diversion Route

The closure is required to allow the project team to safely excavate across the carriageway and install new ducts associated with the Bearsted Road Improvement Scheme.

A two-week period has been allowed within the programme to provide flexibility. However, based on current progress, we are hopeful that the works will be completed sooner. The road closure will be removed as soon as the works are complete and it is safe to do so.

Girls' Football Tournament Report

The girls took part in a challenging football tournament featuring a number of strong, high-standard teams.

The girls were outstanding throughout the day. Their attitude, effort, teamwork, and determination were exemplary, and they represented the school brilliantly. We could not have asked for any more from them.

The tournament began with an excellent performance against Aylesford. The girls started confidently, playing positive football from the first whistle and securing a deserved 2-0 victory.

Their second match was against Southborough and proved to be a very evenly contested game. Both teams battled hard, with chances limited at either end. Just as it looked as though the game would end in a draw, Southborough scored with virtually the last kick of the match, 1-0.

Against Greenfields Grey, the girls dominated from start to finish, playing some of their best football of the tournament. Their passing, movement, and finishing were excellent as they recorded an impressive 5-0 victory.

The final match was against Kings Hill. Despite their efforts, neither side could find a breakthrough and the match ended 0-0.
Although the draw meant the girls narrowly missed out on progressing, they should be incredibly proud of their performances throughout the tournament.

The team were awarded a special medal for sportsmanship as they all showed respect, positivity and kindness throughout the tournament - well done girls!

Thank you once again to the parents who came along to support us for the day, we really appreciate all the time and encouragement you give to the team! 🙂

Year 6 Netball

What an amazing performance at this years mixed netball tournament by the Year 6 team today.

St John’s were in a tough group, but their year of hard work in training definitely showed. They were unlucky to lose 2 of the 4 group games by just 1 goal.

In their last game the team secured a comfortable win, but unfortunately this wasn’t quite enough for the team to progress any further. They ended the day with a friendly against Madginford where they continued their winning streak. A good end to their day of netball.

Well done everyone.
