๐Ÿ’™ Water Safety Matters ๐Ÿ’™

We are deeply saddened by reports that 13 young people have tragically lost their lives in open water incidents across the UK during the recent holiday period.

As temperatures rise, rivers, lakes, canals and other open water locations can appear inviting, but they often hide serious dangers including cold water shock, strong currents, submerged hazards and uneven ground.

๐Ÿšจ Most drownings involving young people are preventable.
๐Ÿ“Š 88% occur without adult supervision.
๐Ÿ“Š 84% happen in inland waters such as rivers, lakes and canals.
๐Ÿ“Š A 67% increase in drowning deaths among 13โ€“17-year-olds has been reported in recent years.

We encourage all parents and carers to have an important conversation with their children about water safety:
โœ”๏ธ Never swim in open water without supervision
โœ”๏ธ Understand the risks of cold water shock
โœ”๏ธ Know how to float if you get into difficulty
โœ”๏ธ Learn how and when to call for help

Together, we can help keep our children safe around water this summer. Please take a few moments to share these potentially life-saving messages with your family.
