Fun fact: one of our favourite poppy patterns didn't come from a book - it came from Charlie.

Charlie's from Dedworth, in his 70s, and was taught to knit by his grandmother. He first dropped off 100 handmade poppies for the project - then decided he wanted to learn to crochet as well, so he joined a couple of Izabela's free learn-to-crochet-a-poppy sessions.

He didn't stop at learning it. Charlie came along to Michelle's free crafty drop-in and showed everyone his own poppy design.

This is what WCPP is about - people picking up a new skill, then passing it straight back to the group. Thank you, Charlie!

I’ve just uploaded a step-by-step video showing how to crochet the poppy for the Windsor Community Poppy Project.

This is a small, gentle make, worked in UK terms, and suitable for beginners as well as anyone who would like a quiet, mindful project to return to.

If you’ve been meaning to take part but weren’t sure where to start, this is your moment to begin. One stitch at a time.
