This we're reflecting on the impact of our dedicated volunteers on the natural environment within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead 💚 Wildlife in Ascot volunteer, Debbie, shares her experience of volunteering in Ascot and in particular, Allen's Field. A huge thank you to all our fantastic community volunteers who are helping to make our green spaces and nature reserves in the borough a better place for people and wildlife 🐝

How can cutting trees possibly be good for wildlife? 🤔 Actually, coppicing is an important technique for managing biodiverse woodlands. It involves cutting the tree close to the ground to encourage regrowth at the stump, which opens up the canopy for sunlight to reach the forest floor and encourages an array of wild flowers to bloom, supporting insects, birds and more!

Martin Woolner, alongside other members of Windsor and Maidenhead Conservation Volunteers, have been helping us do exactly that (and more) at Little Thrift Wood. This we are celebrating the skilled work of volunteers who are helping improve our woodlands for nature and people alike 🌳

It's National Volunteers Week - a time to celebrate all the time, effort and contributions of the many dedicated volunteers who help us look after the natural environment across the borough! What better way to start the week than to hear from Divya and Peter, volunteers at Wild Maidenhead, about their fantastic hedgelaying project at Battlemead and how you can get involved with the group! 🌱
