You may never have considered owning a franchise. I never dreamed I would be running one until a few years ago. I was looking for ways to help more students without cloning myself. That is when More Than Learning Ltd® was formed.

This franchise has been launched in 2024 and the founding members will become part of a dynamic team of individuals shaping the business as it grows. Unlike other tutoring franchises you’ll have the chance to be a part of something new and exciting but with the full support of the franchise owner, Me!

I am not looking to sell franchises to make loads of money, but looking for franchisees that share my vision, whilst earning a good income. What does your teenager love doing?

As humans we are naturally drawn to the things we enjoy doing and that's because our brain's love to use their natural learning ability.

It also gives us an insight into how we would prefer to learn.

For example when I was younger I loved reading books. I also loved colouring in, as long as I kept within the lines. I hated doing anything that I considered messy, like sticking and pasting or digging in the garden.

Both of these gives us an insight into how we naturally learn.

I am still drawn to graphs and data and if something doesn't make sense I look for clarity. I love the puzzle of working out how to help the students I work with. I am really happy to look for solutions for them.

If you look at your teenagers what do you see them loving to do? Is it reflected in the subjects they have chosen or the careers they might be thinking of.

Learning how you learn can help you in so many directions.

Let me explain.

I am a visual and audio digital learner. I need to see what I am learning and it has to make sense.

The other evening my youngest son wanted to explain something he learnt in Business Studies. He was really pleased because he understood it really quickly and he wanted to show me.

Well I say "show" me but what he actually did was just spray loads of words at me.

I didn't have a clue what he was talking about because I had nothing to "see". I needed the words in front of me to let my brain process the information. He did start to say I was slow when the realisation hit him. I don't learn his way.

Lucky for him his teacher speaks his language and he gets it straight away. He's a tonal learner and needs things explained with the right words, at the right pace for him to absorb everything.

I suspect his teacher is quite tonal, because the slides she uses certainly don't satisfy my visual preferences.

Knowing how you learn is the first steps to study success and is the first L in our 3Ls framework.

They always say that if you love what you do you'll never find work a chore.

The same can be said for learning. If you are learning in the way that suits your brain then learning can be fun and enjoyable and dare I say easy.

I don't think anyone has ever said to me that learning to walk and talk was stressful. Okay we might not remember the process and we've all seen babies get frustrated but they all discover how to do it their own way.

Can you remember the look of joy on your children's face when they took their first steps? Can you remember how you felt? I know I still remember the day very clearly, even now it makes me smile.

When I am working with a student and they have that moment when they realise they can learn and that its actually fun, its just like they are taking their first steps again.

Helping students understand how THEY learn is the first step to study success. Once they know how they naturally learn they can then begin to understand why a teacher/subject works or doesn't work for them.

Therefore if your child doesn't believe they can learn something, then why not suggest that maybe they could learn it but in a different way.
