Keep safe if out and about near water.

With the school holidays almost upon us please take the time to talk to your children about the dangers of open water swimming.

Each year several people drown locally, including children and strong swimmers.

There are many dangers to river swimming in particular.

Lives are being put at significant risk by jumping into the Thames from bridges 🚑

Also jumping into weirs, swimmers can easily be overwhelmed and churned around like a washing machine effect.
In Cookham 2 men tragically drowned in June 2020 after jumping in and getting into difficulties.

❄ Cold water shock can happen even on warm days, being impaled on unknown sharp hidden objects, strong currents, boats and becoming entangled are just a few of the dangers.

TVP Windsor and Maidenhead Neighbourhood Team will continue to work with our partners at Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Environment Agency to try and educate swimmers throughout the summer 😎

We need your help too, please do your bit & know the dangers + make sure you tell your children and relatives etc.

Read this weeks Maidenhead Advertiser which has a water safety related article 👍

Saving Rhos-y-Gwaliau (RYG)

Over many years, All Saints has taken Year 6 children to RYG : it is always a highlight of a pupil's time at the school and marks the beginning of them growing up, learning important life-skills and developing independence. We still hope to be able to take current Year 6 children to RYG but a lot depends on how regulations move across the English and Welsh governments.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has been particularly hard on organisations like RYG and, while restrictions still persist, their survival becomes increasingly perilous - but you can help! There follow various appeals that RYG is making. If you can please engage with them, whether by contributing towards their crowdfunding campaign, by signing their petition, writing to your MP or promoting their - every little gesture helps - the following are their words:

RYG CROWDFUNDING
After being closed for over a year, we have been asked by many people whether there is anything more they can do to help and whether they can donate. As a result we have set up this crowdfunding page for those who are able to and wish to support us in that way.

You are able to help further by getting involved with the campaign which represents residential outdoor education centres all across the UK:

1. Sign this petition for financial support for centres. It is the 3rd petition the group has supported and so may not be one you have seen before. Here's the link: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/5527…

2. Write to your MP stressing the importance of outdoor education. Ask for financial support for centres and that they be included on the "roadmap" to reopening. There is more information on our page: https://www.facebook.com/rygoutdoor
You can also invite your MP to join the APPG (All party parliamentary group) for outdoor learning. There is an easy template here:
https://campaigns.thebmc.co.uk/save-outdoor-centres

3. this challenge is taking place on twitter and facebook. Anyone can take part and you can join in as a school on the 5th March by encouraging children and staff to get outside and the puddles and splash til their heart's content or be creative and think of 101 things to do with a muddy puddle: a boat race, puddle hopscotch etc. A bit of fun with a serious point. You can then challenge other local schools or organisations to take part in the challenge.
