Today, we were delighted to welcome an amazing group of students into Sixth Form!

This is a particularly special year group, having achieved the best GCSE results in the history of Magherafelt High School, and they are also the largest group of Year 13 students we have ever welcomed into Sixth Form!

For 70 years, MHS has been helping young people learn, grow and achieve their potential, and this latest generation is certainly making its mark on our history.

We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved so far and excited to see what the next two years will bring.

70 years of MHS, and the future has never looked brighter!

Year 8- We Can’t Wait to Meet You!

We are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 8 students tomorrow from 9.00am to 12.00pm.

Feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement is completely natural, but don’t worry, some of our friendly staff will be waiting at the school entrance to greet you and guide you to the hall.

✅ Please remember to bring:
• A snack for break time
• A healthy drink
• Your school bag
• A pencil case

This is the first step in your exciting journey at MHS, and we can’t wait to get to know you and officially welcome you to the MHS family.

Congratulations to Sophie, a past pupil of Castledawson Primary School, who was the lucky winner of our Open Night school uniform voucher!

Sophie collected her voucher today, and we can’t wait to welcome her and all our new Year 8 students on Friday, looking fabulous in their new uniforms!

Teachers had the pleasure of attending a brilliant training session delivered by Martin Ferguson of Teach-Lead Consultancy.

Author of ‘See One. Do One. Teach One’, Martin has a wealth of experience and expertise. In addition to working for the Education Authority and supporting schools, he delivers seminars at Queen's University Belfast to PGCE cohorts about the importance of interdisciplinary literacy, sharing research informed practice on how to recognise underachievement through reading and writing, and the important role that all subject teachers play in relation to whole school literacy.

He shared a wide variety of strategies, resources and practical suggestions to ensure that every teacher had the requisite knowledge and skill to help students improve their literacy. The session was very well received by the teachers who on so many levels are already demonstrating high levels of collective efficacy, as evidenced in this year’s GCSE results.

We would like to thank Martin for such inspirational training and look forward to continuing to work with him to ensure that all MHS students can achieve the highest levels of personal success.
