These are popping up in all the shops. Please be aware they are not suitable for young children. They are just the right size and shape to cause choking. They do say on the packet not suitable for children under 4.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and a magical 2024 🩵🎄
‘Twas the night before Christmas
As the moon shone so bright,
All signs of the children
Were hidden from sight.
Away went the dolls house,
Away went the bricks,
Away went the train track,
Away the glue sticks.
Gone were the nappies,
Gone all the toys,
Gone snotty noses,
Gone went the noise.
Prams, high chairs, potties
Packed away in the shed,
As the house falls in silence
And I go up to bed.
Thoughts fill my mind
And memories appear,
Of all the adventures
We’ve had through the year.
The learning and growing,
Adventures and fun.
The songs that we’ve sung,
All the crafts we have done.
The cuddles, the laughter,
The magic kiss better.
The school runs that couldn’t
Have possibly been wetter.
Some days were tiring,
Some made me smile,
Most days were hard work,
But all were worthwhile.
To see how these children
Are growing to be
The most amazing small people
I ever did see.
So here’s to a new year,
To all that’s ahead,
As a hush does ascend
And I go up to bed.
May your Christmas be special
And full of delight.
Merry Christmas to all
And to all, a goodnight.

As an OT in NYC, I can get frustrated by how so many schools are pushing learning how to write letters and numbers in preschool when they should really be letting kids explore with paper and writing instruments and building up the small muscles in there hands so they can properly manipulate writing instruments. We are often asking 3 and 4 year olds to start learning how to write letters when they should be coloring and just be able to imitate and copy simple lines at that age. If you are curious if your child is where they need to be in terms of pre-writing skills, check out the graphic below from Growing Hands-On Kids that clearly explains the development of pre-writing skills. I think it is important to keep these things in mind when we tell parents that their children are delayed or behind in writing skills when in actuality, they may be just where they are supposed to be.

Keep water beads away from young children With their bright colours and squishy feel, water beads are especially appealing to young children. When dry, water beads are tiny and can easily be swallowed without detection. As they bathe in stomach fluids, they expand to many times their original size, posing a serious risk of blockage in a chi...

So the butterflies emerged at the weekend which is typical. We have said good buy to them and released them. We had one who had a bit of a deformed wing and struggled to fly so very have put him in our insect hotel so he can chill.
