Ranger Dan- Environmental Education/woodland parties

For those who don't know, I had an injury to my arm six weeks ago. I'm recovering from the surgery and hope to be back up to speed late January. I can commit to new bookings and school visits from early February. Many thanks for the support and patience of my customers.

As the embers die down on my five years of visits to Underwood West Academy I've taken a moment to reflect on my time there.
When I started I had began with the reception children just after Covid.
After so long indoors, it was a challenge to readjust to outdoor education. After a while the children embraced it and looked forward to going out in all weathers, exploring, playing, discovering new wildlife and getting muddy.
They developed socially , physically and grew in confidence each week.
The children have learned how to build dens, plant and grow trees and plants, how to light fires, cook food, make jam with the fruit grown in school, built insect Hotels and hedgehog homes and how to care for all the habitats we've created in school.
The children care deeply about the nature they have in school and they've promised to continue to look after what they have in my absence. They know what to do.
Keep exploring, keep asking questions and always search for answers. Believe in yourselves, you can be great!
Hopefully, there are a few of the kids who will continue my work in the future, I've tried to nurture their interests as much as I can.

I'm proud!

Lastly, thank you to all the staff who have worked with me over the years.
You're very dedicated to the children's wellbeing and work so hard to overcome the many challenges you face. Good luck for the future.

I taught the kids how to use a stove today. We cooked a batch of delicious Harisa and mixed spice Chutney.

Raspberry perfection. We're on our third crop now!
