π« The magical benefits of skin to skin π«
Skin to skin generally happens straight after birth and during the postnatal period. There are lots of benefits and this is perfect and encouraged for both parents π§βπΌ
Four key benefits:
π£ Helps with temperature control for your baby and to regulate their heart rate
π Encourages your baby to feel safe, comforted and helps with bonding
π’ Helps with initiation of breastfeeding and encourages the breast crawl
π΅ It could reduce the risk of postnatal depression due to the increased levels of oxytocin π
Skin to skin is a choice for all parents, for all births and regardless of feeding preferences π« The perfect moment to capture the first meet with mum or dad πΈ

Some tips and tricks to help labour to continue to flow through early labour or the latent phase. This is when your cervix is making some changes. Read below β¬οΈ
1οΈβ£ Movement - this could be gentle walk or climbing the stairs. This will help to get gravity on your side and opens up your pelvis which will allow your baby to move down the birth canal πΆββοΈ
2οΈβ£ Having a nice warm bath or shower π This can feel great in labour and can help to stimulate your body's endorphins (natural pain relief) and can increase oxytocin π
3οΈβ£ Listening to your audios/gentle massage/mediation π§ββοΈ this will help you to focus and stay calm and relaxed. This is something that most hypnobirthing mummas-to-be do to manage this phase of labour π€°
4οΈβ£ Laughter - Put a funny film/podcast/tv programme on with your birth partner. Laughing will help to increase your oxytocin levels and help your labour to flow on. Your body will also produce endorphins giving you a boost. This is great for passing time ββ¨
5οΈβ£ Using a birthing ball or sitting on the loo - either of these will help to open your pelvis by helping you to adopt a upright, forward, open position. It is great for stimulating labour and helping baby with their journey down the birth canal πΆ
Listen to your body and take regular break, stay well hydrated and try to eat little and often β¨π

β¨ Magical TENS Machine β¨
TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. The machine has four different pads that are stuck to your back and controlled by a little handheld device during labour.
π€° The only time this machine can't be used is in water as it is electrical.
Top 3 benefits:
π Offers distraction from your contractions/surges which can help you to feel more in control
π You or your birth partner can control the machine yourself and it is easy to use
π No lasting side effects, you can still be mobile while using it, non invasive and can be used in hospital or at home.
If you would like more information about TENS machines or the rental of them, comment below or DM me π

πΊ Lets take a minute to take about women's health πΊ
This week it is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. One of the ways we can do this is by having our routine cervical smears β¨
Facts about smears and pregnancy:
π€° If you are invited for a routine smear whilst pregnant, you should delay this until around 3 months after you have had your baby.
π€°If you are invited to have a smear after abnormal results whilst pregnant, you can have this whilst pregnant.
Smears take a small sample of cells from the cervix and tests for cervical cancer, HPV. They take less than 5 minutes to have. The breathing techniques taught in hypnobirthing can help you through your smear. A few deep breathes and its all done πΌ I had my routine smear today, it was painless and took minutes, have you had yours? β¨

π Birthing Positions are important π
When you think of birth positions, think UFO.
Upright, Forward and Open, this can create up to 30% more space in your pelvis which can help to reduce the chance of needing intervention.
Having an active labour and using some of the positions above can get gravity on you and your baby's side π
π Always remember what might be comfortable in one stage of labour, may not be later on. Listen to your baby and body, find the position which works for you πΆ π
