ST ANNES-ON-THE-SEA

St Annes is perhaps my favourite town on the Fylde Coast because it is charming and elegant yet refreshingly unpretentious and down to earth.

St Annes' seafront boasts beautiful sandy beach with ecologically important sand dunes as well as the pretty promenade gardens and the St Annes Beach Huts overlooking the beach.

Just a short walk away is the town centre which has a growing number of great bars, restaurants and cafes, especially on Wood Street and there's also lots of vintage and antique shops scattered across town.

Just off the town centre, you have got the lovely Ashton Gardens which has retained its Edwardian beauty with a pavilion, rose garden, ornamental lake, flower beds and woodland.

One of those St Annes days you just don’t want to end ☀️

Blue skies, a busy prom, children on the beach and the huts full of people making the most of summer.

✈️ The Red Arrows are back! 🔴⚪️🔵

One of our favourite sights from the Beach Huts - and they’ll be back over the Fylde coast weekend of 29th & 30th Aug for the Southport Air Show. ❤️

If you’re lucky, you might just catch them passing St Annes on their way in or out.

Who else stops whatever they’re doing the second they hear them? 👀✈️

St Annes Pier wasn’t always this short. It once stretched 914 feet out to sea - complete with a 667-seat theatre, Moorish Pavilion and Floral Hall.

Then came two devastating fires.

🔥 1974 - the Moorish Pavilion was destroyed.

🔥 1982 - fire struck again, destroying the Floral Hall.

Just eight years apart.

Looking at these old photographs, it’s incredible to see how enormous St Annes Pier once was - and how much of it disappeared.

Who remembers the old pier - or actually remembers watching either of the fires?

There must be some incredible memories out there. ❤️
