🎭 ENCORE in Action: Mastering Monologues & Developing Duologues 🎭

Our ENCORE Drama Scholars have enjoyed a busy and inspiring few weeks of creative workshops, further developing their performance skills and confidence on stage.

We were delighted to welcome AKS alum, Oliver Akers, who led a fascinating 'Mastering the Monologue' session, exploring how performers can deliver authentic, emotive and compelling monologues that truly connect with an audience.

Following this, our Head of Drama, Miss Worthington, delivered a 'Developing the Duologue' workshop, where scholars worked in pairs to create powerful performances while refining the art of collaboration, active listening and responding to a scene partner's cues and body language.

Our scholars have reflected on these experiences in their own words. Follow the links below to read articles by Henry C and Rebecca B and discover what they learned from these inspiring sessions.

📸 Behind Every Great Performer is a Great Headshot! 📸

Our Drama Scholars recently took part in ENCORE workshop 'The Art of the Headshot', led by professional photographer Kelly Akers, exploring the role of professional headshots in the performing arts industry.

From understanding how to create an authentic first impression to gaining valuable insight into presenting themselves professionally, the session offered students a unique perspective on life beyond the stage. As part of the workshop, each scholar also received professional headshots to support future auditions, applications and opportunities.

Read Freya H, our Year 12 Drama scholar's, reflections on the experience in the full article below...

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic visit from physiotherapists Laura and Josh from Motion Injury Clinic last week, where they learned all about the amazing human skeleton.

The children explored the names and locations of major bones, discovered how muscles, joints and bones work together to help us move, and learned why calcium is so important for strong, healthy bones. They were even introduced to the fascinating concept of bone remodelling and how our bones adapt throughout our lives.

There were lots of thoughtful questions, enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the session, making it a wonderful opportunity to bring classroom learning to life.

A huge thank you to Laura and Josh for sharing their expertise and inspiring our young learners!

🎉Music & Drama Education Awards 2027 Finalists! 🎉

We are delighted to share this exciting news and, in doing so, highlight Miss Worthington's reflections on what this recognition means for our school, our students, and our dedicated Performing Arts department, whose passion, commitment and tireless efforts make achievements such as this possible...

“Being shortlisted for the MTI Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre is a real honour and a wonderful recognition of the hard work and talent of our students and staff. Les Misérables was such a special production for our department, and what made it particularly memorable was the commitment and sense of togetherness from everyone involved, both on and off stage. Our students gave so much to the production, and seeing their hard work recognised in this way makes us incredibly proud. It is a lovely reflection of what we are building within Performing Arts at AKS.”

- Martha Worthington, Head of Drama -

Come and discover everything our Performing Arts Department has to offer at tomorrow’s Whole School Open Day. Visit our Drama Studio to experience live, open rehearsals for West Side Story and enjoy a special screening of our most recent production, Les Misérables. It's a wonderful opportunity to see the creativity, talent and dedication of our students and staff in action.
