Sometimes the best alumni moments are the unexpected ones. 🏉

Current AKS students Fraser and Logan had a brilliant surprise at the Sale Sharks Academy Residential last week when they met former AKS student Tristan Woodman.

The boys had the chance to chat to Tristan about rugby at AKS and hear about his own journey from school through the Sale Sharks pathway.

There was an extra special connection too. Fraser and Logan’s mum was Tristan’s Head of Year in Sixth Form and taught him A Level Biology, so seeing a former student now sharing his experience and inspiring her own boys was a real full-circle moment.

It is wonderful to see those AKS connections continuing, with our alumni taking the time to encourage the next generation.

🎉 Happy 100th Birthday to Old Lidunian Cyril Alderman!

Today we're celebrating an incredible milestone as King Edward VII School alumnus Cyril Alderman turns 100.

Cyril attended the school from 1940–1944 during the Second World War, where he excelled as a student, leader and sportsman, earning the prestigious Victor Ludorum award in 1943.

Looking back through "The Lidunian" and hearing Cyril's own memories has been a wonderful reminder of the resilience, friendship and opportunities that defined school life, even during wartime.

From everyone in the OAKS Alumni community, we wish Cyril a very happy 100th birthday and thank him for sharing his remarkable story.

🎉 Congratulations to AKS Lytham on being commended in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026 for its outstanding careers education.

This national recognition follows the school's recent ISI inspection, which identified careers education as a Significant Strength. It's wonderful to see the many opportunities available to students recognised, including the contribution of our OAKS alumni community.

A heartfelt thank you to all our OAKS alumni who have generously given their time to support current students by sharing career insights, experiences and advice. 🎓 Celebrating student achievement and the power of our alumni community.

Congratulations to all of our students who were recognised at this year's AKS Lytham Senior School Prize Giving. From academic excellence and leadership to sport, the arts, service and perseverance, the evening celebrated the many achievements that make our school community so special.

We were also delighted to welcome back OAKS alumnus Andrew Jones as our keynote speaker. Drawing on an outstanding international career and his experiences at Arnold School, Andrew encouraged students to develop their own "AKS Compass" – guided by curiosity, resilience, kindness and lifelong learning.

"If everyone here today can be a little braver, a little kinder and a little more determined, there is no limit to what can be achieved."

Congratulations once again to all of our prize winners and thank you to Andrew Jones for helping make the evening such a memorable celebration of achievement and ambition.

On Tuesday evening, we were delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Senior School students at our annual Prize Giving, welcoming students, families, governors, staff and guests for an evening recognising academic excellence, personal achievement and the many contributions our students make to life at AKS.

Congratulations to all of this year's prize winners. Your hard work, commitment and determination have been truly outstanding, and it was a pleasure to celebrate everything you have achieved over the past year.

We were also honoured to welcome distinguished OAKS alumnus Andrew Jones as our keynote speaker and prize presenter. A former Arnold School student, Andrew shared reflections from an outstanding international career spanning four decades in the manufacturing, technology and energy sectors, inspiring students as they look ahead to their own futures.

Our 40th Annual Longest Day Challenge brought our community together once again, with more than 50 participants including students from Years 5 to 11, staff, parents, alumni, friends of AKS, and even a few four-legged companions joining Blackpool Sunrise Rotary for this special event.

Together, we raised an incredible £865. Combined with Blackpool Sunrise Rotary's fundraising, the money will help support Village Aid Tanzania, providing mosquito nets, wheelbarrows, famine relief and water improvement projects for a Blind Rehabilitation Village in Tanzania.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make this year's challenge such a success. 💚🌍
