Caring for a young person with additional and complex needs can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and mentally exhausting at times. The constant advocacy, sleepless nights, appointments, battles for support, and the pressure to “hold it all together” can quietly take their toll.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to acknowledge you, the parents and carers who give so much of themselves every day. Looking after your own mental health matters too.

Some simple ways to support yourself (when and where possible):

᠅ Self‑care is a must for your mental wellbeing
᠅ Talk to a trusted friend or family member
᠅ Time away from the home, even briefly
᠅ Online support forums or parent networks

You don’t have to carry everything by yourself. Support for carers is just as important as support for children. ❤️‍🩹

This week, the team at Freedom Care came together to celebrate a very special milestone - 25 years of the Freedom Care Group and the incredible journey of our Founder, Fran Graves.

What began with Fran’s determination to create a way to care for her own children while building a future for her family has grown into a dedicated organisation of more than 70 team members, all committed to supporting children, young people and families with genuine compassion and care.

For 25 years, Freedom Care has remained grounded in the same values it was founded on: authenticity, trust and putting children and young people at the centre of everything we do.

To mark the occasion, the team also surprised Fran with a well-deserved Employee of the Month award! A small gesture to recognise the passion, resilience and leadership that have shaped Freedom Care over the past quarter of a century.
