The UK Government has launched a new consultation on extending Awaab’s Law to the private rented sector, with proposals to strengthen protections against serious housing hazards, including damp and mould.

The consultation explores how the requirements could work for private landlords, including timescales for investigating hazards and carrying out repairs.

For energy assessors and retrofit professionals, the proposals could create further opportunities to support landlords in identifying potential risks and improving housing conditions.

This week, Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith proposed scrapping the Future Homes Standard if the Conservative Party were to form a future government, as part of wider plans to reduce the cost of building new homes.
