Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week was another busy week at the College, with our Enrichment Day, mock examinations and SIAMS inspection all taking place.

Our students took part in a fantastic range of activities as part of Enrichment Day, including team-building activities at Go Ape, a visit to Legoland and an insight into the world of film production at Harry Potter Studios. Meanwhile, our Year 12 students spent the day focusing on politics, while examination year groups continued with their mock examinations.

We want our young people to experience and learn things beyond their subject curriculum and examination specifications, and I hope the activities provided opportunities for students to develop new interests, build relationships and create lasting memories. I was standing in the bus lanes at 7am and it was wonderful to see so many families supporting the day, with a steady stream of cars dropping off their children. Thank you, as ever, for your continued support.

Last week, we also welcomed our SIAMS inspector to the College. The inspection involved lesson visits, conversations with senior and subject leaders, hearing the views of staff and, most importantly, exploring the lived experience of our students. It will be a few weeks before we receive the final report and can share the outcome, but I am incredibly proud of how the College represented itself throughout the day. We should all be proud of what we have achieved and, more importantly, of the experience we provide for our young people every day.

Finally, I would encourage you to take a look at the first issue of Sapere Aude for this academic year, our student-written magazine. This issue covers a fantastic range of topics, including social media, homophobia, university and apprenticeships, language learning, exam pressure, reading, Morrissey and Jürgen Klopp. It is full of our students’ own ideas, opinions and perspectives, and is well worth ten minutes of your time with a coffee in hand!

The magazine is designed to read beautifully on a phone, so it is perfect for a quick read during a break or at the end of the day. We are really proud of the thought, creativity and confidence our students demonstrate through their writing, and I hope you will take the opportunity to celebrate their work.

Our final Faculty Stars of the Week for the first half term are here!

Throughout the half term, students have been earning credits for demonstrating our six ‘Be CHRIST’ values: Courage, Hard work, Reflection, Inspiration, Support and Tenacity.

Each credit is worth 3 points and gives students another chance in their faculty’s weekly prize draw, with winners receiving £2.50 on their student accounts.

A huge well done to this week’s winners and to everyone who has been collecting credits this half term. Keep up the brilliant work when we return!

The first Sapere Aude of the new academic year has now been read by more than 1,000 people, and we’re incredibly proud to see so many people engaging with our students’ work.

This issue is packed with thoughtful, funny, challenging and opinionated writing on everything from social media, homophobia and the future of university to language learning, exam survival, reading, Morrissey and Jürgen Klopp.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today, we welcomed Kirsty Lacy, our SIAMS inspector, to the College for our Church of England inspection. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work that takes place across the College and, in particular, the way our Christian vision shapes the experience of our young people.

The inspection explored six key areas, including how our Christian vision influences the decisions we make, our curriculum, the development of our students, our relationships with the wider community, collective worship and Religious Studies. During her visit, Kirsty spent time speaking with staff, students, governors and our church partners, as well as visiting lessons, collective worship and seeing the College during the normal school day.

A particularly important aspect of the inspection was the lived experience of the College. Kirsty was keen to see how our vision of enabling every young person to learn, flourish and succeed is reflected in the decisions we make and in the way we work with young people every day.

Our Christian vision is supported by our Be CHRIST values of being Courageous, Hardworking, Reflective, Inspiring, Supportive and Tenacious. These values can be seen throughout College life, whether through the breadth of our curriculum, the support we provide to students who need additional help, the opportunities available beyond the classroom, or the way we encourage our young people to develop their character, confidence and sense of purpose.

Kirsty also spoke with students about their experience of the College. It was particularly pleasing to see students sharing their experiences openly and honestly, giving an authentic picture of life at Lutterworth College. Our daily Pause for Thought, weekly assemblies, Religious Studies curriculum and wider opportunities for reflection all contribute to the Christian character of our College and the experiences of our young people.

We have been working towards this inspection for a long time, and the visit provided an opportunity to celebrate the huge amount of work taking place across the College. We are incredibly proud of the commitment of our staff, students, governors, families and church partners to creating a community in which every young person is able to learn, flourish and succeed.

Star of the Week recognises students who are showing our ‘Be CHRIST’ values in lessons and around College: Courage, Hard work, Reflection, Inspiration, Support and Tenacity.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last night we welcomed well over 1000 people onto site for our Post-16 evening. This is over double to the number of visitors we had a few years ago, and is a reflection in the growth and popularity of the school.

Our summer outcomes have our sixth placed in the top 25% of schools nationally for progress. Added to this nearly 9 in every 10 students progress onto their first choice destination whether that be university, degree apprenticeships, or employment. It means the school is supporting students to progress into really exciting and successful futures.

Families had the opportunity to hear talks from me, our Heads of Sixth Form, and our Head students about what life in the sixth form is like at Lutterworth College.

My message focussed on 3 aspects:

• Choosing the right setting. Students and their families need to decide what environment will work best for them. I briefly shared my own personal experience of going to Loughborough College, having left my 11-18 school. Whilst I went there for a specific qualification, I became an unknown, or just a number. The benefit of a setting such as Lutterworth is that during the most critical stage of a student's education, they'll be surrounded by people who care.

• Choosing the right courses. Students need to be able to articulate the 'why' they're choosing the subjects they are. Both at GCSE and Post-16, students are often attracted to the 'new' courses that are available to them. This is fine, if it suits the skillset or pathway that a student is on. However, I urged families to question their children on the reasons underpinning their choices.

• Choosing the third subject. I stress that the third choice, is the most critical choice. Students will want 3 equally good grades at the end of their post-16 studies. The third choice is critical, as it's often the one students least want to do, or perhaps find it more difficult. They're going to need to put in an equal, if not more time into this subject so selection is critical. Students will want 3 equally good grades at the end of their post-16 studies. There was a fantastic buzz around the evening, and I had so many families speaking positively about the staff and students they'd interacted with.

WOW! Thank you to everyone who came out in such numbers for our Sixth Form Open Evening!

The atmosphere around site was electric, and it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces – particularly from our potential cohort for next year.

As ever, a huge thank you to our exceptional staff and student volunteers, who welcomed our guests so warmly and helped make the evening such a success.
