Albania through a lens

(rather than the two that a person with normal functioning eyesight would have) 🤦🏻‍♀️👁️

We stayed in Ksamil and spent a couple of days in Sarandë. It was cheap, cheerful and very easy to navigate.

We stayed at the Marbella Sol Ksamil-Only Adults and it was perfect for us. Luxury isn’t quite the vibe of this part of the world but clean and bright with all mod cons that you need is certainly achievable on a low budget. Can honestly say some of the best beach clubs for the money too.

I can’t really compare it to anywhere else I’ve been but somewhere between Croatia and Cyprus is probably my closest estimate. A beautiful European haven that I would go back to in a heartbeat (before it becomes the next Mykonos…)

Things happening in healthcare that you should probably know about ⬇️

The NHS “Advice & Guidance” system for GPs and how you can minimise your risk of harm.

🔸What is it?

The A&G system was introduced earlier this year as a way of streamlining the referral process and improving communication between primary and secondary care providers to help reduce waiting lists and delays in treatment.

In short, the system provides that instead of referring, GPs can make a request for “Advice & Guidance” from a specialist that may allow the GP to treat the patient locally, or refer on if necessary.

🔸What’s the problem?

Sadly, a recent investigation* has shown that the system has been misused / misimplemented in some cases leading to increased delays and misdiagnosis. At least 30 cases of patient harm were identified as a result of the system.

🔸How can you protect yourself?

If your GP is making a referral, ask whether it is a direct referral or a request for advice and guidance.

If the latter, ask what the next steps are, who is responsible for following it up and how long you should wait to hear.

If you do not hear within that timeframe and symptoms persist, go back to your GP. The A&G system is not a barrier to a formal referral if your concerns are not addressed.

The system is not inherently bad and can actually be a very effective way of getting treatment quicker. Like many NHS processes, you just need to know where the cracks are and make sure you don’t slip through them.

I sat with her for an hour or so talking through my experience with medical tourism claims in Turkey and the difficulties that many patients face when trying to enforce their legal rights abroad.

It’s well worth a watch if you or a loved one are planning surgery abroad. Whilst it may be cheaper at the outset, the costs of complications can be catastrophic further down the line, financially and emotionally.

A legal practice with no time or costs targets…

🤡

That was the dream I had for Lupa, and we are 3 months in to realising it.

A tumultuous few months to say the least (do not recommend soft launching a law firm on the eve of WW3 for future reference).

But, taking a bit of a step back to figure ourselves out as a team, and how we are going to reach some of these big goals we have has been no bad thing.

We’re building quietly, for now, but I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in just a few short months and there is plenty ahead for the next quarter.
