A full on Easter weekend and Bank holiday was had by all on the club trip to Portland! The edge of storm dave kept us mostly in the harbour area for the Saturday and Sunday, diving some old favourites like the Countess of Erne and The Spaniard, with a lumpy jaunt further afield on Monday over to the Black Hawk around Lulworth Cove. Some good dives, great company .. and the food wasn't too bad either !

Backplate or traditional BC — which one’s right for you? 🤿

Last Thursday, our instructor Sergei ran a backplate & wing workshop for newly qualified divers and anyone interested.

The aim was simple — to give divers the chance to try the setup, compare it with a traditional BC, and make a more informed choice before buying their own kit.

We kicked off with a quick dry session, covering harness assembly and setup, different types of wings and harnesses, and what to consider when choosing your own. Sergei also shared his experience and practical advice.

Then it was into the pool, where members could try the backplate underwater and see how it feels in practice.

Hopefully, the session helped everyone get a clearer idea of what suits them best.

This years Stoney Christmas Dinner dive went swimmingly well with a good turnout for turkey following a dive or two! Visibility was great at over 5 metres and the Golden Carp even made an appearance on this auspicious Chrimbo trip to the Cove.

Afternoon’s office 🤿🙃

A charming gentleman of a certain age visited our diving club last night, looking for help recovering a bird feeder from his pond filled with koi fish — and setting up some pond bottom drain domes.
Obviously, our instructor couldn’t pass up the chance to play underwater treasure hunter… and pet some very confused fish 🤣🐠

Recent club training trips to Stoney Cove and Portland proved good experience in what were at times challenging visibility conditions.. Well done to Yatin, David & Oscar for your recent open water and first coastal dives !
