Last week some of the upper school students participated in their Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Students took part in a live virtual lesson from the penguin enclosure in which some of the classes back in school were also part of. Students navigated maps to find their way around the zoo.

Students also took part in a swim session, made their own dinner, practised first aid skills, pitched tents and created bushcraft scavenger artwork.

The following day students navigated two hikes. One at Maulden Woods and the second at Dunstable downs.

Every week, students in the WISERR department look forward to one of their favourite activities: preparing their own snacks or making their lunch.

As you can see, these sessions are much more than just a fun cooking class. They are vital, hands-on lessons where students develop essential life skills, build independence and practice real-world communication. There is immense pride and motivation for them in seeing—and tasting!—the final outcome of their hard work.

These valuable experiences can only be kept running by the parent contributions we receive to cover the cost of ingredients, for which we are truly grateful. Thank you.

On Friday all classes in the PMLD/ PD department had a lovely trip to Stockwood park to visit the new Vauxhall exhibition. Woodlands have collaborated with the organisers throughout the year to ensure the event was accessible. Students had a lovely time exploring and using their senses.

📸 WISERR has a budding photographer in the making! Using his ICT skills and creative eye, he enjoys capturing a wide range of images — from portraits and stunning nature scenes to unique abstract photography. Always respectful and thoughtful, he only photographs people who are happy to take part. He’s just as confident in front of the camera too, and loves striking a pose! 🌿✨

During their life skills lessons, students in Seacole class work together to make their own delicious pizza dinners, practising a variety of practical skills including grating, chopping, spreading and preparing different ingredients such as basil, spring onions, mushrooms and cheese. The students showed great focus, teamwork and confidence while creating their tasty meals!

In Jobs lessons, students have been developing their one-to-one correspondence skills by transitioning to collect a specific number of objects and handing them to a communicative adult. These activities help to build early numeracy, communication and independence skills in meaningful ways.

Students proudly use their personalised communication books effectively to independently request snacks and drinks throughout the day, supporting their communication and choice making skills.
