It has 1120 students between the ages of 11 and 16 and became a converter academy in October 2010. We have a decade-long record of year-on-year achievement at GCSE, during which time the proportion of students gaining 5 or more, good GCSEs has more than quadrupled. Our focus on success and achievement is uncompromising and our value-added score for progress from key stages 2 to 4 is the second hig
hest in the country. We won the TES ‘Secondary School of the Year Award’ in 2009 and became an academy in 2010 as well as becoming a strategic partner of the Chiltern Teaching School Alliance, with Challney High School for Boys, with whom we have been in a federation since 2008. Challney Boys is also an outstanding school with a very longstanding record of excellence and it too received a TES award in 2009 for the ‘Outstanding Staff Training/Development Initiative’. Both schools have a track record for system leadership and strong collaborative approaches. Since September 2013 we have been part of a multi-academy trust called the Chiltern Learning Trust. The schools within the Trust are Denbigh High School, Challney High School for Boys and Dallow Primary School. We are also a member of the Challenge Partners network with the ‘Denbigh Hub’ being one of only a small number of hubs across the country. These networks provide a structured and sustained approach to school improvement through training and developing teachers, peer review, school-to-school support and joint practice and leadership development. The success of our school has led to widespread recognition through national school achievement awards, close links with business partners such as HSBC and our Executive Principal, Dame Yasmin Bevan, receiving national honours. Some of the awards the school holds include the SSAT Outstanding Progress Award, International School Award, Healthy Schools Award, ICT Mark and the Sports Partnership Mark. The school’s core value statement "High achievement for all is our shared responsibility" reflects our belief that everyone must work together and support one another as a learning community so that each and every student and staff member is able to achieve the highest standards in all that they do.
