Within my sessions I am always looking for opportunities for my students to learn in a combined way.
For example, today earlier on in an English session with one of my students we looked at prefixes and suffixes.
Afterwards I got them to identify more of these types of words through dictionary skills.

Partitioning numbers.
First session with new student earlier on this evening, I gave the first example above and afterwards they did the work independently
part of tutoring involves knowing when to step in and help and when to step back.
My philosophy as always is :
' you don't need to give someone a lifeboat if they don't need it'

Children learn and succeed at different speeds. The same as adults.
Some are cheetahs others are snails. When teaching or mentoring a child, knowing how much or little to challenge them is important.
Furthermore whats also important is that we are guiding our children in the right direction to help them succeed.
Im not talking about passing test papers in life, but practically helping them fulfil a particular dream they may have.
A simple example : if a child has a high interest in singing, a parent could consider taking them singing classes to improve the likelihood of them becoming a singer.
This doesn't always work out , but it does give the child an opportunity to experience and discover themselves as a person. Which is important for human growth.

I believe that 'belief' is one of the most powerful things a human can have.
In a similar way when our children learn to 'believe' in themselves towards achieving
goals they deserve, they will grow in confidence and experience great amazement in their lives

Apart from practising test papers in order to improve a childs marks. Another benefit of exposing children to exam test papers is that they learn to familiarise themselves with different layouts.
An example.shown below.

This 'strength' is such a personal thing, it can't be measured because everyone is different.
Neither is this 'strength' easy to 'teach a child' because it comes from oneself.
As hard as this may sound. "strength" to a certain degree is a personal choice.
The most us adults can do for our children is to encourage, guide, and be the example of 'strength' in our own lives. Hopefully this is enough inspiration for them to follow.
However I do believe the earlier the better, when a child learns to exercise their 'strength and resilience'.This is because the more children get older, their level of challenges in life change and increase.
