šŸ’› Children’s Mental Health Week šŸ’›
Last week, our Year 9 students took the lead in delivering a powerful whole-school assembly to mark Children’s Mental Health Week. They confidently raised awareness about balancing self-care with school stress, shared practical strategies for managing anxiety and challenging situations, and spoke about how to turn negative thoughts into more positive, balanced ones.
A particularly impactful part of the assembly focused on breaking down stereotypes around boys’ and men’s mental health, reminding everyone that speaking up is a sign of strength, not weakness.
We are incredibly proud of the maturity, honesty and leadership shown by our Year-9.

At Moorlands, we marked Safer Internet Day with an engaging conversation on online safety, led by our Year 7 students.
The discussion began with how to stay safe online before moving on to a thoughtful exploration of AI, including how to spot AI-generated images and think critically about what we see online.
Our Year 7s led the sessions brilliantly, showing confidence, curiosity and a strong understanding of digital responsibility. Well done to everyone involved šŸ‘

Year 9 created freezeframes for Mr Birling’s assembly in chapter 3, Pride and Prejudice. The challenge was to modernise this party and focus on Mr Darcy’s rejection of Elizabeth. The class was successful in their understanding of this significant event in the novel!

Year 9 have been exploring the topic of maths and money, with one of the final sections focusing on exchange rates šŸ’±. Some students brought in a variety of fascinating currencies from around the world, giving us a great opportunity to look at money up close. We investigated new currencies, worked out conversions into pounds, and compared their values. It was also really interesting to explore the designs, symbols, and people featured on money from different countries. šŸŒšŸ’·

Year 7 have kicked off their algebra journey! šŸ”¢āœØ
We’ve been exploring equations and equality, and today things got hands-on as students wrote on the tables to create their own equations and substitution problems. Everyone designed their own calculations, then swapped with a partner to solve each other’s work. Lots of thinking, lots of teamwork, and plenty of algebra fun!

This week, year 10 & 11 watched ā€˜Dear England’ at the Milton Keynes Theatre! Through the premise of England’s football team, this play tells the uplifting, at times heart-breaking, and ultimately inspiring story of England across the last decades, leaving audiences asking themselves what it means to be British and what England’s national identity feels like today. Relevant for their English Literature studies, students enjoyed first-hand insight into the making of modern drama, specifically the use of prop, set and lighting. Many students recognised the well-known characters in the play and how their stories can effectively be portrayed on stage through script. Year 10 left the theatre uplifted and are now looking forward to a National Theatre workshop on the play next week.

Year 10 Science students have been exploring DNA and genetics šŸ§¬ā€”and even extracted real DNA from strawberries! šŸ“ Watching DNA appear right before their eyes made genetics come alive and showed how science can be both hands-on and exciting. Great work, Year 10!

Year 10 have started to angle their way into GCSE trigonometry, getting to grips with SOHCAHTOA and learning to spot the sine of the times. They’re beginning to apply the Sine Rule with more confidence, making fewer wrong turns and finding the right angle as they build strong foundations for their GCSE maths journey. šŸ“

Year 11 have reported that they have all starting seeing circles… this is completely normal since we’re on the topic of circle theorems. The class have come full circle in their GCSE maths. They’ve explored angles, tangents, and radii, and now know how these ideas fit neatly together. With fewer students going off on a tangent, their understanding has really taken shape, helping them feel more confident as they continue their GCSE journey.

Year 11 have created a memory lane: Diagramming everything they have learnt around their GCSE Poetry Anthology through a story so that they can remember these texts more effectively.
