King's Park Cross Country Teams shone in Round 1 of the Primary Schools' league, despite challenging conditions. 🏃♀️🏃♂️

🌟 ‘Let’s Celebrate’ Lurgan with a Rising Star Family Fun Day🌟
Lurgan is celebrating its status as a Rising Star on Saturday 28th October with a busy family fun day and free parking in all council owned car parks, culminating in a Lantern Walk through the centre.
🎃 Urban ABC and Lurgan Working Group have come together to plan a fun-filled day of events including free walking tours, a treasure hunt, storytelling, pumpkin carving, lego displays and street entertainment.

Last weekend at the National Arena Cross Championships held at Bolesworth Castle in Chester, England, Mason gave an outstanding performance!
🥇 Qualifying in 1st and 3rd in his heats.
🏁 Making it to the final as one of the top 14 riders from a field of 40.
🥉 Finishing 3rd place overall!

In response to the current cost of living crisis, our friends in St John’s church in Lurgan are organising a Winter coat project to help the local community. 🧥
They are collecting good quality, pre-loved coats as well as hats (must be new), scarves and gloves for children and adults. As a school, we would like to support this project and we will be acting as a collection point for items.
If you have any pre-loved coats, scarves, gloves or new hats that you would be willing to donate, please send them into school by 29th September in a bag marked ‘Winter Coat Project.’ In the next few weeks we will also be sharing information about how and when these items can be obtained by those who need them. 🧤🧣

In 2022, The EA launched an exciting project called ‘To Bassoon & Beyond’, in collaboration with the Ulster Orchestra. We are delighted to have been one of the schools that have been involved in this pilot scheme and we are very thankful to Krista Gallagher from the EA music service for all the hard work she puts in week by week.
This project has recently been nominated for Best Music Learning Initiative 2023 in the Classic FM awards and would really appreciate your vote. It really is a wonderful initiative and continues to be a very worthwhile experience for our pupils.

P7 Mawhinney/Bell attended the beautiful Baronscourt Estate as part of The Pushkin Project to explore the theme 'Reforestation of the Imagination.'
They participated in creative writing, drumming and 'inspiration through nature' workshops.
A great day was had by all and thank you to the Pushkin Trust for hosting us. 💐
DAY 2 at Shannaghmore 🏕
We had a busy but brilliant day yesterday. After breakfast, we headed bouldering up the river. We were then put to the challenge on the low and high ropes course. Our final activity was a scavenger hunt around Shannaghmore. 🪢🪨🔎

Congratulations to our cricket team who had a fantastic day at the primary school cricket finals in Belfast.
The team did exceptionally well, making it to the semi final.
They unfortunately lost to a very strong Waringstown team.
The highlight of the team’s day was the superb victory over Campbell JS by 3 runs.
Really well done to all the team making it as far as the semi final. They should all be very proud of their brilliant efforts. 🏏🙌

Primary 2 had an amazing time at Parkanaur Forest Park! 🌳🌟 They went on a Gruffalo hunt, found clues, saw white deer, and even met the Gruffalo! 😱🦌 Thanks, Speedwell Trust for a fantastic experience! 🙌
Congratulations to the King’s Park girls football team who have finished the season undefeated!👏
Today they competed in the Northern Ireland finals which was held in a league format this year. Despite their undefeated status the girls placed second on points and were awarded silver medals. Congratulations to neighbours Edenderry who won on overall points. Mr Shields was very proud of the girls and would like to thank all the P7s who have put everything on the line for King’s Park over the years. A special mention goes to Lydia who has been playing for the school team since P3!🤩

Well done to the P6/5 team who went undefeated through 6 games until they went behind to an extra time golden goal in the semi-final of Brownlow Cup. Mr Shields was delighted with the commitment from each player and looks forward to seeing them step up to the senior team next year🙌

Congratulations to both our Cricket A and B teams who competed at Po***ck Park in the Philip Wallace Cup.
Both teams gave a fantastic account of themselves with the B team finishing extremely well in third place.
The A team remained undefeated and won a very closely contested final against a strong Maralin team by eight runs.
Very well done to both our school teams. 🙌

To wrap up their topic, they worked together in groups to create amazing models of the ship. They look fantastic! 🚢🎨
Primary 4 had a great time on Evacuee Day! We had a visit from Eva Jones the billeting officer from Time Steps Living History. We tried on gas masks and learnt all about the Home Front and what life was like for an evacuee. We’re leaving at 11am next Thursday from the train station. We’ll have to remember our identity card and label. 🚂
We learnt all about rationing and got our very own sweets ration for the week (I wonder how long they lasted 🤔 😂). We had lots of fun playing WW2 games! What a great day!
