🌟 🏃‍♂️ Run Poplars 2026 🏃‍♀️ 🌟

What a fantastic event it was today! Facilitated by the team from Norwich City Community Sports Foundation.

Every single child (and even members of staff! 😊) took part, completing their laps with determination, enthusiasm and huge smiles. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging and cheering each other on throughout the event.

We were also lucky to have some very special supporters helping to motivate our runners... the Poplars Unicorns! 🦄 Their encouragement helped make the day even more magical!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far. Every penny makes a difference and your generosity is truly appreciated.

🎤💛 Community Spotlight – Finding Our Voice at Poplars! 💛🎤

At Poplars, we believe that every child deserves the confidence to speak up, share their ideas and know that their voice matters! 🌟

That's why we place such a strong emphasis on oracy – developing children's speaking and listening skills – throughout our school.

From Nursery right through to Year 6, we create opportunities for children to explain their thinking, ask questions, share opinions, listen carefully to others and speak confidently in front of an audience. 🗣️✨

One of the ways we bring this to life is through our Debate Week, where children learn how to build an argument, consider different viewpoints and disagree respectfully. We also develop these skills through storytelling, performances, classroom discussions and everyday conversations. 💬

And it's not just about the children who are naturally confident speakers! We want every child to develop the confidence to contribute, whether that's sharing an idea with a partner, answering a question in class or speaking in front of a larger group. 💛

These are skills that go far beyond the classroom. Being able to communicate clearly, listen to others and express yourself confidently will help our children throughout their education, in their future careers and in everyday life. 🌈

Because at Poplars, we don't just want children to have great ideas – we want them to have the confidence to share them! 🌟

🌍✨ Did You Know? – Geography at Poplars! ✨🌍

At Poplars, we want our children to become curious explorers who understand the world around them and recognise their place within it! 🗺️

Our Geography curriculum takes children on an exciting journey, beginning with exploring their immediate surroundings in Nursery and Reception before developing their understanding of the United Kingdom, different countries, continents and the wider world.

Throughout their time at Poplars, children learn to:

🏡 Explore their local area – developing an understanding of Lowestoft, its features and the community around them.

🗺️ Develop geographical skills – using maps, atlases, globes and digital resources to investigate different places.

🌍 Discover the wider world – learning about countries, continents, cultures and environments.

🌦️ Understand physical geography – exploring rivers, mountains, volcanoes, weather and climate.

🏙️ Investigate human geography – discovering how people live, work and interact with their environments.

🌱 Become responsible global citizens – understanding environmental challenges, sustainability and how their choices can make a difference.

At Poplars, we believe Geography should help children make connections between what they learn in the classroom and the real world. Through geographical enquiry, fieldwork and practical experiences, children develop the confidence to ask questions, investigate and explain their findings.

Our ambition is for every child to leave Poplars with a strong understanding of the world, an appreciation of different places and cultures, and the curiosity to keep exploring! 💙

📅 Attendance Matters – Weekly Tip! 📅

This week’s handy hint: Regular bedtime and morning routines 🛌 ⏰

As the weather becomes colder and the days get shorter, it can be harder to maintain regular routines. However, consistent bedtime and morning routines play an important role in supporting good attendance.

Children who get enough sleep are more likely to wake up feeling refreshed, positive, and ready to learn. A regular bedtime helps improve concentration, behaviour, memory, and overall wellbeing during the school day. Similarly, preparing school bags, uniform, and lunches the night before can reduce morning stress and make it easier to arrive at school on time.

If your child is feeling tired or reluctant to come to school, maintaining these routines can make a real difference. Every day in school provides valuable opportunities for learning, building friendships, and developing confidence.

Top Tip: Aim for a consistent bedtime, even at weekends, and try to switch off screens at least an hour before bed to help children get a good night's sleep 🛌 😴

🎓 Are You Smarter Than Year 6? 🎓 – Answer Time!

Thank you to everyone who had a go at today’s Geography challenge! 🌍

The question was:

The Equator divides the Earth into which two halves?

✅ The correct answer is B) Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

👉 The Equator is an imaginary line that circles the Earth at 0° latitude. Everything north of it is in the Northern Hemisphere, while everything south of it is in the Southern Hemisphere.

Bonus fact: the Prime Meridian, at 0° longitude, is used to divide the Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. 🌎

Well done if you got it right – you’re officially as smart as a Year 6 pupil (this week 😉).
