I love this - The nation pulling together for the fabulous RSPB big garden birdwatch - I have seen schools, nurseries and childminders all tagging in this week, all bird spotting and bird themed play. We need more of this, more citizen science, more time to sit and spot. This is why I love the big garden bird watch for that reason it brings people together. Soo let me know what you spot in your garden this weekend .. I’m throughly enjoying garden bird spotting and see everyone’s posts.

I love looking for the little things and soo do children - this is my toolkit of LOVE for the natural world.

Children’s love for nature and the curious world around us is infectious, let’s take the time to create a world full of explorers, scientists and nature lovers.

The nature way isn’t about giving you inspiration to setting up pretty tables, to buy beautiful wooden resources, to show you things that are already on instagram aboit play inspiration.

It’s about arming you the educator with KNOWLEDGE about the natural world.

🌍 To go on walks with children or go on walks without ! teach yourself and then pass on the knowledge and your finds to children.
To learn together 💖🥹 - it’s about finding the small things and stopping to look at the world.

The. You as the educator can take the inspiration however you like … set up a pretty table and invitation to play off the back of your nature walk, by all means use it as a hook. But don’t get too bog down in the set ups, let nature be the teacher first and YOU the educator use the framework as your Knowldge bank.

I LoVe working with EYFS groups - What the Nature buddies learn during The nature way session - keeping children active, hooked and connecting to nature - all while developing essential skills and learning. ⭐️

Enjoyed working with a setting this week via zoom - we talked about creative story telling - Bringing storytelling to life, how to Incorporate phonics, creative writing and allowing imaginations to be free to do. Instead of having a pen and paper and sitting, letting children move, fiddle, do, creative story boards allow children the movement and to wipe away and start again, to play with the items to create a story. Dharebthe story together - Throughly enjoyed watching the setting take The Nature way module of nature hunt to create story boards - Let’s go for a walk in nature be inspired by our surroundings find a sit spot and create a story board with loose parts. A active classroom, bringing together a happy engaged classroom outside in nature. Looking forward to watching their The nature way journey unfold and become a The nature way classroom.

Absolutely loved this session - creating a big hotel together and then the outdoor phonics to write the bug hotel sign. Hats off to to the wonderful ms buck who was quick thinking and brought this element to the outdoors - demonstrating how wonderful the outdoors is for adapting all elements of classroom learning.

Earth time was wonderful, I love watching children take five mins to relax in the outdoors, to stop and listen to the environment and just observe.

A focus on birds - Our bird study has seen settings getting out bird spotting, listening to the sounds of birds and learning new ID skills and giving nature a name. This is such an important excise, if you can educate yourselves and children with a new name your more likely to listen out for it, or spot it. The brain is then tuned in an aware - Awareness is key to nature education. Spot and pay attention to what is around you, learn names of nature. Let’s have childhood being about naming the natural world rather then being able to name tv characters and you tubers and celebrities. Empowering and connection starts with the little things I your doorsteps, gardens, parks, walks to school. I’m proud to the nature way toolkit as it’s seasonal and is inspired by my own walks and teachings in the woodland and gives you a current up to date toolkit of what you would spot right now. The squirrel study🐿️ is because they are extra hungry right now and you would spot them more as they feed up. Worm study because it’s wetter under your feet and easier to dig into the ground. Bird study because it’s a great time to feed the birds.
