Literacy tips
Favourite of mine when teaching literacy has always been poetry, they are great for developing language, they can be funny, sad and thought provoking. Pupils I have taught have loved Michael Rosen's poems, you can have great fun listening to 'Chocolate Cake'

Reading a variety of books including those that have a more archaic language, are vital steps to developing as a reader. I am enjoying rereading the classic 'Treasure Island' by Robert Louis Stevenson.

"His left leg was cut off close by the hip, and under the left shoulder he carried a crutch, which he managed with wonderful dexterity, hopping about upon it like a bird. He was very tall and strong, with a face as big as a ham-plain and pale, but intelligent and smiling."
