Acorn Class learnt about Alma Thomas for Black History Month. We enjoyed creating some colourful artwork in her unique style!

This week Willow Class started reading Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. They made owls, bears and rockets in many different ways and planned what they’d take with them for a picnic on the moon! Now time to write our own version. I wonder where Baby Bear will travel to this time!

Oak Class learnt about the properties of materials in science and classified objects depending on whether they were opaque, transparent or translucent. We were surprised to find some objects we assumed were opaque actually weren’t!

This week, Silver Birch were lucky enough to welcome the Jam Coding team for an exciting and engaging coding workshop! The children had the opportunity to learn all about coding and develop the skills needed to design and create their very own games. By the end of the session, every child had successfully created a game that they could be proud of. It was wonderful to see their creativity, problem-solving skills and enthusiasm shine throughout the workshop!

In Forest School this week, the rain didn't stop the fun. After finding the tennis ball, the KS1 children filled a special suitcase with leaves they then took them inside, dried them, and did some beautiful leaf printing. KS2 children challenged themselves by building a den to keep them dry before some teamwork games. Well done everyone, and don't forget your wellies and coats in case the rain surprises us again.

High Beech participated in both the Y3/ 4 and the Y1/ 2 mixed football competition this week. The children looked so professional in their new kits, very kindly purchased by the friends and sponsored by Bullen Roofing Ltd.
Well done to all the players and a huge thank you to Liam Murphy, George Hobbs and Ben Cooper for coaching the teams on the day.

Acorn Class enjoyed planting some daffodil bulbs. We will need to wait until early Spring to see them grow!

It may only just be October but Willow Class has been busy making Christmas cards! These will be available for parents to buy as printed cards, mugs and more. They look absolutely fantastic, great job Willow Class.

Oak Class enjoyed the last of the September sunshine, practicing yoga in the playground 🌳

This week in Silver Birch to deepen our understanding of the body systems we used a practical model to show how nutrients travel through the body. We then reflected on what the model showed and how we could improve the model to make it more accurate.

In Forest school after finding the tennis balls we made our very own spinners. Using natural wood that was kindly cut and donated, the children decorated it before drilling holes and using threading twine. Once the twine was threaded they were able to spin them and see how the colours moved. Well done everyone

In Acorn class we have been busy with our phonics. learning our new sounds and beginning to blend. Well done Acorns.

This week in Silver Birch they explored the origin of Rock music, copied rock themed dance moves, clapped to the beat and practiced singing harmonies.

In Forest school this week after finding the tennis ball, everyone created shapes, some 2D and some 3D. KS1 children paired up to help Acorn pupils and they worked beautifully together while KS2 children challenged themselves to get creative with 3D shapes. The older children also enjoyed climbing the tree too.

Acorn Class have been learning about their similarities and differences. We are all unique and we are all welcome.

Willow Class had a great session with a football coach from Tottenham Hotspur today. They learnt all about ball control on the ground and in the air as well as practicing their ball balancing skills!

Oak Class has a fantastic introductory session to our science unit, learning about light and how we see. We learnt about how important light is for seeing and how we cannot see when there is no light. We then went to the forest school area to explore how we can use our other senses to help us when we can’t see.’

This week we had a Tottenham coach come into school to do a training session. Silver Birch worked on skills such as ball control, balance and footwork. They put them into practice through a variety of games and activities. They all had a great time!

This week we had our first forest school session of the year. We began with a reminder about how to stay safe before finding the tennis ball. Some children then made magic wands using natural objects to decorate them, while others challenged themselves to build a trolley. Well done everyone.

This week we welcomed our new acorn class. well done team acorn you have settled into school life and we look forward to the year ahead.

Willow Class have had a great week and have settled back into their learning well. They’ve enjoyed the story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and have been busy learning about place value.

Inspired by the work of Heather Galler, Oak Class created self-portraits in the 'folk art' style. They sketched their features before using oil pastels to add bright and vivid colour to their work. The features were then outlined using black marker. Heather Galler puts a lot of herself into her work, and Oak Class had the freedom to add their personality, showcasing an animal, something that they enjoy doing or just giving themselves some fun hair. The portraits look amazing, well done Oak!

As part of this week’s art lesson, Silver Birch began their new unit, ‘People in Action’. Working in pairs, they took turns posing and sketching one another, focusing on capturing movement and gesture.The activity encouraged close observation, quick decision-making, and creative expression. It was a fun, engaging start to exploring figures,motion, and expression in art.

We have had a very calm and positive start to the year.
It was so lovely to see all the children and hear all about their summer holidays.
Classes have been busy setting class rules and learning new routines. We look forward to a successful year ahead.

Summer Vibes Art Day arrived and was received with such energy and enthusiasm!

Acorn class have been learning about maps, we loved exploring Cubetto; giving directions and watching it move from a start point to a finish point. We programmed it to make turns and go forward. Well done!

This week in Silver Birch carrying on with their Grand Canyon unit they explored tourism. They discussed the different pros and cons that tourism has on the locals, tourists and environment. They then looked at the different tourist activities that are available at the Grand Canyon and then researched these; creating an advertisement leaflet with this information.

In Forest School this week after finding the tennis ball we made our very own stick people. Once everyone found their perfect stick they hammered it together to make arms and a head. Well done everyone.

Some children went on a lovely trip to ELHAP an accessible playground in Woodford Bridge. They had the chance to explore, play and use their imaginations while having lot's of fun.

Acorn class enjoyed a slow walk up to the church and then had our snack before we went into the church to explore! We learnt all about the organ and how it works and then we played the church bells! We finished off creating a paper dove craft and celebrated the baptism of Barnaby Bear.

Willow Class tried to keep cool this week with swimming and ice poles. We swapped our usual swimming lesson for a fun swim session with all sorts of balls and floats and had a splashingly good time!

In Forest School this week after finding the tennis ball we made our own natural weaves. One pupil even crocheted their own bow to add to it.

Even through the heat, we made the best of our beautiful school. During playtime the Forest School area was opened and pupils enjoyed using their imagination, creating and having fun together in the shade.
