We cannot recommend Nicola and the team at Stepping Stones Tutoring highly enough.
Our son first started with Stepping Stones in Year 6 when he was really struggling with maths. He had become so fearful of getting things wrong that he was reluctant to even try, and this was having a real impact on his confidence. At the time, he was assessed as being below the expected target for his age.
Within a year, we saw a remarkable change. Not only did his ability improve, but so did his confidence to the point where he actually started to enjoy maths! That was something we genuinely never expected to see.
We continued with tutoring throughout secondary school, and the difference it has made has been incredible. He has just started Year 11 and is now taking Higher Maths GCSE. His sessions have evolved with him, helping him tackle areas he finds challenging, prepare for exams, revise effectively and understand what is expected of him at GCSE level. The confidence he has developed has been invaluable.
In Year 8, we also introduced English, a subject he has always struggled with and, if we’re honest, really dislikes! Again, Stepping Stones has made such a positive difference. His understanding, comprehension and ability have improved, but perhaps more importantly, so has his attitude towards the subject.
What makes us most grateful isn’t simply the academic progress. It is the change in how our son feels about subjects that once made him anxious and lacked confidence in. He now has the confidence to have a go, tackle challenges and recognise what he is capable of.
