Nobody warns you about the first conversation you will have in this country.
Before you collect a single bag, an officer will ask you a few questions. It is normal, it is usually short, and it is much easier if you already know what is coming.
When I landed, I was asked how much my tuition fees were. It sounds like a small thing until you are standing there, tired from the flight, and the number will not come to you.
So know your own details. Your university, your course, your modules, your fees, where you are staying and how you are funding yourself. Not because anyone is trying to catch you out, but because answering calmly makes the whole thing take two minutes instead of twenty.
And keep your documents in your hand luggage, never in the bag you check in. Passport and visa, CAS and offer letter, your accommodation address printed out and not only sitting on a phone that might be dead, your TB certificate if your country requires one, and your proof of funds.
One more thing. Pack one warm layer where you can reach it. You will want it the moment those doors open.
Flying this month? Come and join the group. We are running airport pickups from Manchester, Birmingham and Heathrow, and helping people view rooms before they pay for them. Link in bio.
