FAO Parents of nursery age children...

This information is for parents with children born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022.
You can now apply for a primary school place for them to start school in Reception in September 2026 and the deadline to apply is 15 January 2026.

Applying couldn’t be easier.

The quickest and easiest way to apply for a primary school place is
online at www.northyorks.gov.uk/NYC-PRIML

Application Process in North Yorkshire:
• You only need to submit one application, and this should be done through the Local Authority where you live (i.e. where you pay your council tax).
• You can list up to five schools on your North Yorkshire application, please note that applying to just one school will not improve your chances of getting a place there.
• You can apply to any school or academy in North Yorkshire and if you want to apply for a school in another Local Authority area, list it on your application and the council will liaise
with them.
Information:
• Before completing your application form, we highly recommend reviewing the important information available on our school admissions and home to school transport pages The
information will answer many of your questions and help you navigate the process.
• School admissions web page can be found at www.northyorks.gov.uk/admissions
• There have been changes in eligibility to free home to school travel, more information on this and a ‘Find my nearest school’ distance calculator can be found on home to school
transport web page www.northyorks.gov.uk/schooltransport
• We strongly encourage you to include your nearest school as one of your preferences. Not doing so might result in your child being allocated a place at a school farther away, and you
would be responsible for any transport arrangements and costs.
• If you are thinking of delaying your child’s entry into school more information and what you need to consider can be found here www.northyorks.gov.uk/making a request for admission
out of the normal age group

Submitting Your Application:
• Once you’ve submitted your application online, you’ll receive an acknowledgment email.
Allocation of school places:
• 16 April 2026 is National Offer Day when school places are allocated.
• For online applications, you’ll receive an email with a secure link to view your child’s school place offer. Be sure to keep your login details safe as you will need them again to access
this information.
• If you have completed a paper application, then your offer of a school place will be sent out in the post.

💛🧡🩷💜 We have been so excited to launch our new mental health project called ‘myHappymind’. 💜🩷🧡💛

The aim of this programme is to help prepare our children for tomorrow by building resilient and healthy minds for the future. Over the past years all schools have seen an increase in children needing support in school and we are keen to ensure they have the skills to manage their mental health as well as their physical health.
The programme structure myHappymind is taught across five modules and each introduces a new set of content and habits to help children build resilience, self-esteem and confidence:

1. Meet Your Brain
Understanding how your brain works and how to ensure we look after it so that we can manage our emotions and be at our best. Growth mindset is a key part of this too.

2. Celebrate
Understanding your unique character strengths and learning to celebrate them. This is a fantastic module for building self esteem.

3. Appreciate
Understanding why gratitude matters and how you can develop gratitude as a habit. Gratitude is key to wellbeing and resilience and we’re all about making it a habit!

4. Relate
Understanding why positive relationships matter and how to build them. We’re focussed on the building blocks of good relationships and friendships.

5. Engage
Understanding how to set meaningful goals that matter and how to keep resilient in times of challenge. This module is all about building self esteem and resilience too.

Parents and carers at myHappymind schools get access to our Parent App, so they can reinforce everything their children are learning at school whilst they’re at home. Please feel free to click on the link to learn more.
