After 12 years as Head of Trent College, HMC Independent School Bill Penty has retired.

From celebrating 150 years of Trent, to navigating the challenges of Covid-19 and a changing education landscape, his headship has been a significant chapter in the school's history.

Above all, Bill has always put pupils first and valued the relationships that make Trent such a special community.

We look back on 12 years of leadership, achievement, change and plenty of memorable moments, and say thank you to Bill for all he has given to Trent College and The Elms.

Celebrating 70 years of service to Trent College 💙

This summer, we said farewell to two much-loved members of the Trent College, HMC Independent School community as Peter Sherwin and Sharon Moulds retired after a remarkable combined 70 years of service.

From caring for the grounds that generations of pupils have enjoyed, to being a reassuring presence at the heart of the school office, Peter and Sharon have each made an enduring contribution to life at Trent.

As this year’s Head’s Guests of Honour at Speech Day & Prize Giving, their remarkable careers were celebrated with the warmth and affection they have both inspired over so many years.

We’ll also be sharing a follow-up feature celebrating the other members of staff leaving Trent this summer, recognising the dedication and contribution they have each made to school life and, most importantly, to the experience and success of the pupils.

Hidden beneath Trent's Bottom Field for almost a century...

This summer's exceptional heatwave has revealed something quite remarkable.

As the grass has scorched, the footings of Trent's original cricket pavilion have become visible for perhaps the clearest time in living memory, and nearby the outlines of the school's original cricket practice nets on Turner Field.

We've delved into the archives to compare what can be seen today with photographs from 1888 and 1897, before the pavilion was replaced by a single storey building in 1933 (footings also seen) and later relocated in 1989, with the er****on of the Stansbury Pavilion (where the Prince Obolensky Building now stands).

It's a fascinating reminder that Trent's history isn't confined to our archives, sometimes it's hidden just beneath our feet.
