Free time and mental health are my top two.
What are yours? Does the business you own help you or stop you from achieving them?

Fun Fact:
Staircases in medieval castles were built to be extremely narrow and spiraling in a clockwise direction?

Since medieval castles were built mainly as fortifications, staircases were designed to make it extremely difficult for enemy combatants to fight their way up.

Since most soldiers were right-handed, they would need to round each curve of the inner wall before attempting to strike, inevitably exposing themselves in the process. The clockwise spiral staircase also allowed the defenders to use the inner wall as a partial shield and easily allow them to swing their weapon without being hindered by the curvature of the outer wall.

The stairs were also intentionally poorly lit and built to be uneven, making it even more difficult for the attackers to gain any sort of balance or momentum during their fight up to capture the castle.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH BUSINESS?
What have you done in your business that makes it harder for your competitors to pe*****te your market share or win potential customers that you might already be engaged with.

Every business is constantly being engaged in commercial warfare. If you didn't realise this, YOU'RE ALREADY LOSING!

THINK...
What could you do today to make it difficult for your competitors to win over your business?
What can you do to make your business the 'no brainer' choice for everyone you interact with?

I went away to Iraq in 2007 and honestly, it was hard work. But, I had a good tour. I didn't lose any mates, I have all my limbs and I didn't experience anything that affected my mental health.

I was lucky! Although I was very prepared to get stuck in as much as was required, I had no issues with giving my life if needed. For my mates more than anything else.

What does the 11th mean to me?

It's priceless, worth every bit of faffing around with the kids in the morning, ironing my threads, and taking most of the day up. It's never a chore, not even a duty, it just is something that I think EVERYONE should be doing.

Ultimately, I am grateful and proud!

Relatively speaking, I get to do whatever I like because I live in a relatively free society, perhaps not as free these days, but all the same, I have always been grateful to those that literally gave their today, for my tomorrows!

But these days, when the 11th comes around, I don't think of those that gave their lives in WW1 & WW2 as much as I used to.

I actually think of my friends that have some deep s**t in their heads that they can't get rid of! I have my own PTSD (nothing to do with war), and I get what it does to you and how low and down someone can feel on a bad day. Even the best days are rarely as good as the fairly good days used to be.

And that's me, with nothing as bad as what some of my friends have to think about (whether they like it or not).

As an ex-soldier, naturally, I have lots of friends that were or are still soldiers.

So these days, for the most part, I think about them, my friends, and all the other soldiers that have the same s**t going on.

They don't get the recognition they deserve.

When I came home, wearing my kit and carrying over 60kg of s**t, I was treated like a hero. But the shine wears off and it doesn't take long. The 'appreciation' for what soldiers have to go through even to be deployable, let alone actually get the tour done, wears off.

So if this happened to me, then it happens to everyone I suppose.

So remembering the dead, having a moment to consider those still here and still suffering, and respecting all soldiers shouldn't be for just one day, it shouldn't need a parade, it should just be.

Remember them forever.

We should also use days like yesterday to consider the consequences of irresponsible politicians deciding to stake yet more lives on 'looking after' the UK's interests. War should be avoided at any cost.

I hope the future brightens for our serving soldiers and those yet to join.

It seems that I am shortlisted ✔ for The 2022 'Most Inspiring Business Person of the Year' award! 😮 at the National Entrepreneurs Awards which I will definitely be attending at the NEC this month!

As I understand it, there were around 800 or so candidates and I am in the shortlist of just 8 people!

I'll meet Jimmy Carr who will be presenting the award to the winner. Will just have to wait ⏳ until the 25th September to see who won!

I can tell you that I know I have quite a story and yet while it's probably not me that'll win, whoever does will really deserve it.

You think that the "Boost Post" button is marketing right?
It isn't, that's just giving money away.
You do this a few times here and there and then stop, because you think Facebook marketing doesn't work....

Well... Facebook marketing is amazing when you plan your campaigns and put it to work properly.

Swapping poor marketing with great marketing will grow the value of your business. Just adding £100k to your bottom like can add £400k to your companies valuation (at least).
And more than £600k increase in business value if you can also get to a point where the owners of the business have no role in the day to day running of the business.

Start with a great marketing strategy. Then.
Exit your business with freedom and wealth.

FREE MODULE (coming soon): How Business Owners Exit Their Business. The Top 10

Number 7 is usually everyone’s favourite, but almost nobody ever achieves it! (FYI. This is what I help business owners do). But number 5 is my personal favourite.

1. File for bankruptcy.

2. Liquidate the business.

3. Die as a key employee in your business and have your distraught family try to keep it running, sell in a rush or fold it.

4. Succession Plan: Family member to take over the business.

5. Succession Plan: Promote a trusted employee to take over the business. Keep the profits coming in every month/year for life.

6. Explore a merger.

7. Have existing managers buy you out.

8. Full sale: Develop a plan to prepare your business for a sale, so that even hands-off investors (like insurance companies) will want to acquire you. And AVOID AN EARN-OUT

9. Have ALL your employees buy you out over time

10. Sell your stake to a partner/investor.

Which one is your favourite? Comment below.

**** How to achieve 1-3... ****
It's really simple. Just carry on as you are. Don’t plan your exit at all whatsoever, be patient and it’ll come eventually.

**** Some advice for methods 4-10... ****
Spend months researching and learning about Exit Strategies. I do have TWO amazing books to recommend on this matter. One is called Finish Big by Bo Burlingham and another is which i’ll cover in my program which starts in October.

In particular, you’ll have to spend many months, but probably 2-3 years making yourself as irrelevant to your business as possible. Although, trying to do this blindly and on instinct is most likely going to mean this will take you many many more years and you’ll likely end up exiting via methods 1-3.

Has anyone you know managed to exit their businesses? How did they do it?

Do you want to exit your business? Do you have a plan? If so, how are you planning to do this?

"Nurseries Going Out Of Business" 😟😢

Having just seen the report on the news about Nurseries Going Out of Business, in particular, listening to the lady that ran a nursery and was losing £50k p/a.

The solution (or magic pill 💊) is simple! They need to put their prices up! Say, by 10%.

Parents will notice, some may moan, but they aren't going to remove and un-settle their kids for it.

But with a fair-sized nursery doing £750k revenue p/a, that'll give them an extra £75,000. All of which drop straight to the bottom line!
That alone deals with the losses AND would get them into profit. 💰🤑💰

Maybe they have parents asking them if their kids can go an extra day, or they have new enquiries, but they don't have the space because they can't afford or hire the staff. But, if they put their prices up, they can suddenly afford to both hire an extra member of staff and give their lower-paid (at-risk of leaving) staff a pay rise.

One new member of staff costing say £30k p/a means the nursery can take on an extra 13 new children. Potentially increasing their revenue up by £137,000. With around £90k of that also dropping to the bottom line (profit).

In business, usually, the best solutions are simple. But it's hard to fight through all the minutia of the day-to-day of running a business right?

Wrong. Not when you have a Business Coach.
A Business Coach is someone who is either a trained expert in going through a defined process of helping businesses solve problems and create a clear path to growth. Or, someone that has many years of experience in business and has decided to pay it forward and help other business owners. A small portion of coaches are both experienced in business and are well trained with at least one qualification.

The point being that what a business coach does is genuinely take business owners from where they are now to where they want to be. That's literally their profession.

The best sportspeople in the world have coaches.
Celebrity CEO's have coaches
Coaches have coaches.
I have a coach and if you're in business, then you need a coach.

If you'd like to arrange a quick 15 minute call with me to discuss where you are now and where you'd like to be. Drop me a message and you can have a very productive conversation with me. If you like what you hear, we can arrange a Business Diagnostic Session.

Just arrange the damn call and make better choices for your business.
Business Coaches are basically FREE.
