I’ve been drumming for over 30 years after picking up a pair of cheap drumsticks from a long-ago closed-down music shop in Edinburgh – I only went in for guitar strings! When I’m not teaching the drums, I’m practising techniques or mastering something new. I play in many bands across the South West, including Bristol’s favourite ska band ‘Moonshot’. I specialise in dep drumming (where you stand i
n for the regular drummer at short notice). I’ve played most styles at some point from indie rock to jazz, funk to klezmer and samba to ska and reggae. But not metal… that will never happen. Eight years ago, I decided to follow my passion for drumming after a suited-and-booted life in financial services. I re-trained and got a teaching qualification from ABSRM Royal Schools of Music. Now, I teach individual and group drum kit lessons in primary and secondary schools across Bristol, plus a few lessons in African drumming, samba drumming and steel pans. I also teach lots of people at my home in Long Ashton - mainly children between 6 and 16 years old. But I also really enjoy teaching adults and I want to do more of it! Different people learn in different ways. The lessons I give are always tailored to you - the individual. I don’t have a set way of teaching. I teach what you want to know, in the way you want to learn. So, whether you want to play along to your favourite songs, prepare for playing in a band, decide what drums to buy or how to tune a drum kit, my years of experience will help you get the most out of your drumming.
