Until next time ๐Ÿ’š

A beautiful summer full of wonderful memories in the city, but just wait till they find out how lovely Derry is in Autumn ๐Ÿ

You just canโ€™t beat a fifteen ๐Ÿ’š

June has been hosting students for over 3 years now, she was born in the countryside and went on to work as a Home Economics teacher in Derry. She loves cooking and will have her students round the table for some proper traditional hospitality. But there are also moments like this, when she gives a little bit of our culture back to Spain. Weโ€™ve heard fifteens are huge in Madrid now ๐Ÿ˜‚

There are lots of language schools all over the world, and maybe weโ€™re a little biased, but there really is no hospitality quite like the hospitality here, largely in thanks to our people, people like June ๐Ÿ’š

โ€œYou canโ€™t say that about everywhereโ€ ๐Ÿ’š

Derryโ€™s tourism is on the rise, as increasingly more people choose to visit the city, some repeatedly, and so, we would like to hear from you. What is it that makes Derry unique? Why should somebody visit the city? What gives us our own charm?

We sat down with one of our lovely hosts, June, for a chat about Derry and her 3 years hosting students from Spain and further afield. There were some really fabulous bits in this chat so do stay tuned. Meantime, weโ€™d love to hear from you ๐Ÿ’š

55 of our Italian and Spanish students staying with us in Derry and out on a wee day trip to Belfast ๐Ÿ’š

Our summer school students love visiting Belfast for the day but they often say they like coming back to the calm of Derry๐Ÿ˜‚. Itโ€™s amazing to see the city through their eyes, some of our younger Germans this year were even amazed at โ€œhow big a city Derry isโ€ as they come from a really small village in Germany ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

Just goes to show you how we all walk such different paths ๐Ÿ’š

Exploring The Bogside ๐Ÿ’š

One of the first excursions we bring our students on when they arrive in Derry is a tour of the city, with a focus on art and murals. The Bogside is one of the best places to start when visiting the city both from a historic and an artistic point of view. There is always something to spot here, from the larger murals of The Peopleโ€™s Gallery, to the newer, smaller pieces that pop up over time.

Make sure you visit The Bogside on your visit to the city ๐ŸŽจ

Another summer in Derry nearly over ๐Ÿ’š

and what a special one it has been ๐Ÿ’š

Over the last few months, weโ€™ve welcomed hundreds of summer school students to Derry and itโ€™s been so special. Many have fallen in love with the place and the people, and some are doing the absolute most to come back. All of their love for our home really does put it in perspective how good we have it here.

Thank you to all our wonderful partners, hosts and of course, students, for making this years summer schools even more special ๐Ÿฅฐ

Part 1 of our journey from 1989 Derry to todayโ€™s Derry and an appreciation for how far weโ€™ve all come ๐Ÿ’š

From where we were to now being one of the fastest growing cities for tourism, never a day goes by where we arenโ€™t proud of Derry and look forward to the time to come.

Part 2 coming soon, thanks for watching ๐Ÿ’š

โ€œThe hard working women of our cityโ€ ๐Ÿ’š

Did you know the bricks used to build The Craft Village in Derry were recycled from the old shirt-making factories in the city?

The Craft Village is a reconstruction of an 18th-century street and a 19th-century Georgian square and is home to some of the loveliest artisan craft shops and cafes in the city.

Derry was once a global producer of shirts and was home to 44 shirt-making factories, 90% of the factory workers were women, known fondly as the factory girls.

Thank you to Garvin for sharing their story with our students from Spain and Italy ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿค๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

Our Italian lads having a class time in Derry, we love to see it ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Thereโ€™s nothing that gives a real Derry experience quite like the people. This is why we love encouraging our students to speak to locals, they always come away with a fondness for our people and it tends to stick with them for years. So thank you Derry folk for leaving a lasting impression of our city ๐Ÿ’š
