Our Story
Enfield Film Orchestra was formed on 28 April 2011. We concentrate on playing movie soundtrack and theatre music, plus we often collaborate with our sister-project, English Jazz Orchestra www.englishjazzorchestra.co.uk, for symphonic swing shows and more.
We work with a full symphonic line-up and are currently seeking all strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass), woodwind (piccolo, flute, clarinet, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, oboe, cor anglais, bassoon, french horn, tenor horn, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, baritone horn, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion - tuned inc timpani (which we have on site) and drum kit (also on site), piano and harp.
We wanted somewhere for local musicians to come and enjoy playing together, without the pressure and minimum standard often required by other amateur classical ensembles.
In September 2012, we moved to our current HQ at Oakwood Baptist Church in Southgate, London N14. This was so we could provide excellent transport access for our players, being just a short walk from Oakwood Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line.
The main thing to say is that we are not high brow, we are inclusive and it's okay to make mistakes at Enfield Film Orchestra - that's the way we learn. New players sometimes find themselves sitting with a novice on one side and a seasoned professional musician on the other. Everyone is friendly and encouraging and that's the way we like it.
If you enjoy playing a varied mix of music and you want to learn and develop, whatever your starting point, we would love to be able to help you through Enfield Film Orchestra.
Enfield Film Orchestra rehearses on Thursday evenings during academic term time between 8.00pm and 10.00pm at Oakwood Baptist Church, Merrivale, Southgate, London N14 4TE.
