Young people bring something unique to the workplace: they're true digital natives.
However, technical skills alone aren't enough. Confidence, communication and career direction matter hugely. That's where great mentoring can make all the difference!

Job hunting can feel like a full-time job. Hours spent tailoring applications, completing assessments and preparing for interviews often lead to rejection or silence. This can have a devastating effect on self esteem. Mentoring can't remove the obstacles, but it can provide perspective, encouragement and resilience when motivation starts to fade.

We're so happy for the deserved recognition given to one of our mentors, Merrill Powell, who is now Merrill Powell, MBE!
"Congratulations to Merrill Powell MBE on being recognised in HM The King’s Birthday honours list. Whenever our student candidates need interview preparation, she is always there 24/7 to help them. I too find myself seeking Merrill’s opinion with my own speaking engagements. She always tells me know how I can do better."

Having a mentor support your child, especially as they transition from education to employment, can be extremely valuable. A good mentor will help build confidence, develop skills and get them thinking outside the box, without the emotional tension that comes with parental relationships.

We have a little challenge for all the job-seekers out there. Take a few moments this weekend to tune out and listen to a song that you enjoy. If you're able to, have a little foot tap or dance along with it. Brief moments such as these are essential for wellbeing during intense times, and so it's important to stay in touch with this side of ourselves.

The impact of a job search on people's nervous systems should not be underestimated. Whether it's feelings of inadequacy, a perceived loss of control or dealing with rejection, it's a trigger-laden recipe.
This is one reason why mentoring can be so valuable. A good mentor provides not only practical guidance but also perspective, encouragement and a sense of agency. Sometimes the most important thing is helping someone recognise that setbacks are part of the process, not a verdict on their potential.
