🌍 Building better AI education, together

We’re excited to announce the launch of the AI Research Foundations Toolkit, created by UCL and the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), with Google.org’s support.

Built on the no-cost Google DeepMind: AI Research Foundations curriculum, this toolkit enables universities to embed Large Language Model (LLM) education directly into classroom teaching, balancing advanced technical skills with ethical responsibility.

Co-designed with African educators to fit real classroom environments, Project Manager at AIMS Michael Alummoottil shares:

💬 “By combining this technical expertise with an on-the-ground understanding of African STEM education, we have developed resources that are built around the practical realities of our classrooms.”

The result is a flexible, modular resource featuring over 50 hours of lesson plans, classroom activities, and interdisciplinary learning that educators anywhere can adapt to their context.

Today is World Entrepreneurs’ Day! 🎉

To celebrate, UCL student Annie Spencer reflects on her recent Venture Builder win in July, where she was awarded £1,000 to support the next stage of her heritage venture, Lighthouse Explorers ( on Instagram / on TikTok).

Run by UCL Innovation & Enterprise, Venture Builder is a 10-week programme helping UCL students and recent graduates turn ideas into viable ventures.

Through the programme, Annie developed her business plan and mapped out the next five years of Lighthouse Explorers.

Isabel Goncalves Cattuzzo has spent more than two decades advocating for UCL’s technical community, which now has over 1,000+ professionals, one of the largest in UK higher education.

This includes establishing the Technical Skills Development Hub (TSDH), a dedicated space promoting tailored support, career development, mentorship and meaningful recognition for colleagues in technical roles.

Technical staff make so much at UCL possible, working across almost every discipline and department and making vital contributions to research, teaching, innovation, enterprise and knowledge exchange.

Join us on 8 October at the Bloomsbury Theatre for our next Disagreeing Well event: Is creativity being crushed by AI or transformed by it? Expect a balanced, rigorous conversation with experts from academia, the AI industry, policy, the arts and the media.

The event will be chaired by Professor Jeffrey Howard, a leading scholar of political philosophy and public policy at UCL, and founding director of the Digital Speech Lab. His work includes freedom of expression, AI ethics, mis and disinformation, and the governance of public discourse.

Whether you see AI as expanding artistic possibility or threatening human creativity, this event will unpack where disagreement exists and why.
