Open from 8AM to 6PM (plus extended hours, if required) from Monday to Friday fifty weeks of the year, the nursery offers exceptional levels of care coupled with endless opportunities to promote young children’s development in full-day, morn

The highly qualified, dedicated and experienced nursery practitioners use a mixture of Montessori and other resources to prepare children of a variety of ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds for admission into state and independent schools. This month, our little ones have been busy exploring colours and numbers, practising counting through a variety of fun and engaging activities, and learning about pollution and ways we can help protect our planet. 🌍

They enjoyed planting, recycling, and reusing materials creatively in their play, while also staying active both indoors and outdoors and discovering different ways to move their bodies.

It’s been a summer full of movement, hands-on activities and fun discoveries at the toddler and preschool site. As the children explored different kinds of sports, they also had the opportunity to practise them and take part in their own Olympic Games, where everyone was rewarded with a medal. The children also experimented with combining different media and materials and observed the effects they created.

Over the past couple of weeks, the babies have made the most of the summer weather by enjoying lots of outdoor play and celebrating the season. Indoors, they explored summer through sensory experiences with sand and water.

The children also learned about healthy foods through tasting activities, explored health and hygiene, and used shapes in their play to support their early mathematical understanding. Throughout these experiences, they showed high levels of excitement, curiosity, and engagement.

Over the past few weeks, the children at our Toddler and Preschool site have been exploring healthy eating through a variety of hands-on, sensory experiences.

We harvested our potatoes and enjoyed a delicious supper made from them. The children explored a variety of fruits and vegetables, discovering their seeds, planting them, and incorporating them into different areas of their play.

They tasted, smelled, touched, listened, and closely observed a range of natural materials. They also took part in physical activities, helping them understand how movement affects their bodies.
It has been a meaningful and engaging learning journey for everyone!

Over the last few weeks, the babies explored the world around them through their senses, touching different textures, smelling and tasting while exploring natural materials and helping to prepare healthy foods, as well as joining in singing their favourite nursery rhymes and staying on their toes while engaging in different games on the playground. At Hornsey Day Nursery, we celebrated our wonderful fathers with a Stay and Play session at both sites.

The older children have been busy exploring animals from around the world and learning about their different habitats. They also looked at the continents and discovered that we all come from different places. Through stories, the children learned about ancient civilizations and then put their knowledge into practice by creating their own ancient bridge and irrigation system.

It has been a month full of fun, exploration, and meaningful learning experiences.

The past month in the Baby Room has been filled with joy, exploration, and learning. The children thoroughly enjoyed a special 'Teddy Bears' Picnic with 'Singing Harriette' at the park, where they sang, danced, and engaged with a variety of exciting resources. Back in the nursery, they continued their explorations through hands-on activities focused on themes such as families, friendships, and community helpers, encouraging their understanding of the world around them while supporting their social and emotional development.

At the toddlers and preschool site over the last month, we have focused on exploring our feelings and learning appropriate ways to manage them. We looked closely at ourselves and identified the differences that make each of us unique and special. The children watched with great interest as caterpillars transformed into butterflies, helped to feed them, and later released them into nature. They also enjoyed preparing healthy foods and spending time in the garden, watering and smelling the lovely roses. What a wonderful learning journey it has been!

Over the last few weeks, the babies have been kept busy with activities around birds, flowers, and the forest habitat, exploring natural elements through a variety of experiences. We also focused on activities around feelings, exploring a bit more about how we feel and how we can cope with the big feelings that come our way. Alongside these activities, the children did not forget to water our indoor plants, as well as the potatoes that are growing nicely in the outdoor veggie box.

At the preschool and toddler site, we celebrated Earth this month with hands-on activities related to plants, birds, and animals. We made sure to water our flowers, plant potatoes, and bake some veggie muffins. All these activities brought us joy and a deeper appreciation for nature.
