Tahm-Rayiš (Tomyris to the Greeks) was the warrior queen of the Massagetae, a tribal group of the Saka, related to the Skythians. According to Herodotus, when the Persian king Cyrus the Great requested her hand in marriage, Tomyris refused, resulting in Cyrus invading the Massagetae territory and decimating her army.

Tomyris survived and swore she would "give him (Cyrus) more blood than he could drink." In the subsequent battle, her forces crushed the Persian army, killing Cyrus, whose severed head she submerged in a bag full of blood, saying "Drink your fill of blood!"
