On this day, JAGS alumna Winifred Elsie Brenchley OBE was born in 1883. Winifred was the first woman in the UK to break into the male-dominated sphere of agricultural science and ‘was perhaps Britain's leading authority on weeds in the early twentieth century’.
Winifred was taught in the Botany Gardens by Dr Lilian Clarke at JAGS. So it seems fitting to show our current Botany Gardeners hard at work today restoring one of the ponds this summer.
We are delighted to announce our 50th Reunion Tea will be taking place on Friday 22 September.
Alumnae from the Class of 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 are invited to attend the event which will include musical performances from JAGS ensembles as well as the opportunity to catch up with former classmates!
