Let's get chatting!
A Tibetan community for neurodivergent parents/carers.
This community is to raise awareness and understanding of neurodivergence and to offer a supportive, nonjudgmental space where families can learn and lean on one another.

Let's get chatting!
These are some common autistic traits. Keep in mind each individual is unique. That's why personalised support plans are crucial. Not everyone fits the same mould, regardless of being neurotypical or neurodivergent.

I have noticed many people using the phrase "ཀླད་པ་ཐང་པོ་མེད་པ་" (Laepa Thangpo Mayba) to describe autism. This terminology is inaccurate and misleading. Having autism does not mean a person is mentally unsound; it simply means their brain processes information differently. While an individual can be born with both autism and other conditions, it is important that we differentiate between them.
Just as every neurotypical child is unique, every autistic child is different. We must recognize that one description does not fit everyone. I ask that we stop using the phrase ཀླད་པ་ཐང་པོ་མེད་པ "Laepa Thangpo Mayba" when referring to autism and work together to foster a more accurate and respectful understanding within our community.

This seems to be the biggest misconception when it comes to autism.
Autism is characterised by a multiple behaviour patterns/traits, which can leads to specific needs. This is why every autistic individuals are different and require different support.
Hopefully, with more research and general awareness, there will be less of these misconception.

Did you know you can borrow a sensory bag at the London transport museum?
It contains lots of sensory toys, and you can also borrow noise cancelling headphones, especially when it gets too loud.

First Kind Mind gathering was a delight! Seeing parents and children together was heartwarming. Acknowledging your child's neurodivergence is the first step towards providing the right support. Unfortunately, our Tibetan society lags behind in accepting neurodivergence, and it's time to break the stigma. Neurodivergent kids have exceptional potential.
