Alexander Technique Teacher Training for the 21st Century. We train Alexander Technique teachers. Where? When? Some trained with STAT and some with ATI.
The school is in Central London a short walk from Waterloo station. We meet one weekend per month and most Thursday evenings. We are more flexible and affordable than “traditional” schools; our trainees do whatever hours they choose, and pay by the hour for the time they have done. We encourage anyone who wants a teaching certificate to come for all the hours, but some come when their finances all
ow. Others don’t want to be teachers and just come for the transformational aspects of the training – sometimes just for a few hours every month. We also have some people who are training with STAT and ITM who come here to get a different perspective. Qualification leads to membership of Alexander Technique International and eligibility to join the national CNHC register of Alexander Technique teachers. ATI's criteria for qualification are qualitative not quantitative, so there is not a fixed number of hours and everyone graduates when they are ready. Our first teacher qualified late last year after about 1200 hours of training. ATI's qualification process involves assessment by three independent senior members of the organisation. More details can be found here: http://ati-net.com/sponsorship.php
The training team is led by Peter Nobes. Peter qualified as an Alexander teacher with STAT in 1993. For the last decade he has been training Alexander teachers and leading workshops for Alexander teachers in ten countries in Europe, Asia and North America. In our experience, from more than ten years of assessing trainees for teaching membership of ATI, the best candidates have been exposed to a wide range of styles of teaching during their training. For that reason we have regular visiting teachers from around the world. They include
• Penny O’Connor (UK)
• Fiona Cranwell (Ireland)
• Barry Kantor (South Africa)
• Galit Zeif (Israel)
• Antoinette Kranenburg (USA)
• Kajsa Ingemansson (Sweden)
• Gilles Estran (France)
If you’d like to find out more you are welcome to visit. On Saturday mornings there are teachers, trainees of all levels, people who are interested in training, and other visitors. Teachers and trainees from STAT and other organisations are welcome to join us too. And we're always looking for people with little or no experience to come to our "Open House" on Saturday mornings for our senior trainees to get some teaching practice. Call or message us if you'd like to come.
