When safeguarding failures become public, organisations often respond in familiar ways: investigations, dismissals, reporting channels, training, and new policies.
These responses matter.
But the MSF Chad case points to a more difficult question: why do organisations so often discover exploitation only after it has become widespread?
Safeguarding is not only about perpetrators. It is also about systems.
A prevention-oriented approach asks how dependency is created, how authority is exercised, who controls access to resources, who can report safely, and where accountability actually sits.
The issue is not whether response matters. It does.
The issue is whether humanitarian organisations are willing to examine the conditions that make exploitation possible before harm has already occurred.

The recording of **CTDC Academy’s Arabic launch** is now available online.

This was a conversation about language, knowledge, AI, responsibility, and the kinds of learning spaces we need now.

In conversation with Weam Guesmi, Dr Nour Abu-Assab and Dr Nof Nasser-Eddin shared the story behind CTDC Academy: where it came from, why it matters, and what it means to build a learning space rooted in rigour, accessibility, political consciousness, and care.

The Arabic launch also opened questions that could only be asked in this way, in this language: how Arabic shapes thought, how knowledge travels, who gets to be recognised as an expert, and how we can engage AI without giving up judgement or responsibility.

The event recording is now available to watch online.

What does learning need to do now?
At the English launch of CTDC Academy, Dr Nour Abu-Assab, Dr Nof Nasser-Eddin, and Dr Sara Shroff opened a conversation on learning, AI, and practice in a time of institutional pressure, political crisis, shrinking resources, and technological acceleration.
The event introduced CTDC Academy as more than a platform for courses. It is a learning space shaped by CTDC’s work across research, consultancy, organisational practice, training, and critical pedagogy.
The conversation explored learning as more than receiving information. It asked how people build judgement, practise responsibility, unlearn assumptions, and act with care in complex conditions.
It also introduced CTDC Academy’s first course: Ethics and Foundations of AI Use.
This course supports learners to move beyond reactive AI adoption, use AI with discernment, evaluate outputs critically, and build a responsible practice that protects human judgement rather than replacing it.
The full launch recording is now available.

When crisis happens, organisations often move quickly: activate protocols, issue guidance, expand wellbeing support, and coordinate through formal systems.

These steps matter.

But they are not always enough.

Crisis shows us where systems are fragile — and where care is already happening through people, relationships, teams, communities, and informal networks.

This blog asks what organisations need to understand differently about care, responsibility, and accountability in moments of disruption.

Because care is not only a service.

It is a relation.

Who decides how AI is used in your organisation — and who bears the consequences?

It is not a technical question. It is an institutional one.

And most organisations are moving forward without ever asking it.

Next week, CTDC is opening a new door for the first time after thirteen years of behind-the-scenes work with over 120 institutions across 50+ countries.

We are marking the launch of CTDC Academy with a free live session — a real working lesson on the ethics and foundations of AI use. Not a presentation. Not a product pitch. A genuine 90-minute session on a question that matters for any professional working in or with organisations today.

CPD Certified.

Two sessions — choose the one that works for you:

What do you know about the CTDC?

13 years. 120+ organisations. 4,500+ people. 50+ countries.
And most of the world has never heard our name.

At CTDC, we’ve always believed that real impact doesn’t need a spotlight. It needs the right people, the right methods, and the patience to stay until the work is truly done. We go in, we build, we transform, and then we watch our partners carry it forward.
