❓Did you know…

‼️ Each year, roughly 80,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest – that’s around 200 people every day.

💔 Over 80% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home so it’s most likely to be a loved one you would need to perform CPR on.

👉 Just 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

✅ We can change this!!

👉 ANYONE can do CPR and use a public access defibrillator. They are simple skills that can literally mean the difference between life and death.

⛑️In doing a first aid course, you are learning skills that could potentially save a life – how amazing is that!

✅ In our first aid classes we’ll teach you how to perform CPR on babies, children and adults and we’ll also teach you how to use a defibrillator).

🫶🏻 Together we can make the world a safer place.

💔 Today, we come together to honour the little souls who left us too soon as we join the global community in the to remember and support those affected by baby loss.

🕯️ If you’d like to join in with this act of remembrance, light a candle and let it burn for at least an hour.

Share your candle in your stories and use the hashtag.

👉 By doing so, we raise awareness and break the silence around this deeply personal and often stigmatised grief.

🫶🏻 This week, let's offer support, compassion, and understanding to those who have experienced baby loss. Know that you're not alone.

The wave of light will light up the darkness and show that love never fades.

☕️ 46 of those cases is due to hot drinks spills.

⚠️ A hot drink can seriously burn a child 15 minutes after it’s been made. It’s important to keep hot drinks well out of reach of little ones and remind any guests visiting of how important this is too.

Across the board (children & adults) scalds are the most common cause of burn injury, representing 43% of acute burn injuries

It is estimated that on average 110 children per day are seen in emergency departments with burn injuries – 46 as a result of a hot cup of tea or coffee spill

The majority of burn injuries occurring to children are between 3 and 6pm

The most common place of injury for children is in the home – 49% of whom are burnt in the kitchen

The average cost to the NHS for a major burn is £168,155

Burn cooling is critical in the initial first aid response to injury – applying cool running water for 20 minutes is considered best practice.

⛑️ If your child does accidentally get burned the first aid treatment they receive could make all the difference to their recovery.

Remember:

1 – remove any clothing (including their nappy as this will retain the hot liquid and potentially cause more harm)
2 – cool the burn for 20 mins under cool running
3 – cover the burn with cling film

Then take the child to be seen by a medical professional.

Children’s skin burns at a lower temperature to ours so it’s so important to take extra care when there are little ones around.

🤢 Tummy bugs can make your little one feel pretty miserable but usually you can care for your child at home and they’ll recover within about a week.

The biggest risk is dehydration, which is when the body loses too much water and salts and can’t perform its usual functions properly. This can be very serious.

➡️ Swipe for symptoms of dehydration in children.
👨🏻‍🍼 Keep offering breast milk or usual feeds for babies.
💦 For older babies and children give lots of small sips of water.

Most children feel better in a few days but if it lasts longer, get in touch with your GP.

💚 Today is day so in honour of this here are some important reminders for us mums.

🫶🏻 Becoming a mum can feel hard at times. Feelings of loneliness and sadness at the loss of the life you had before you had your baby are not uncommon but are not commonly spoken about for fear of judgement or being deemed a ‘bad’ mother. They also come with a decent helping of guilt for having those feelings.

💚 We’re here to tell you to go easy on yourself; you’re doing a great job. We were never meant to do this on our own.

👉🏻 If you are struggling and feel you could use some support, here are some people who can help you. You are not alone.

🔹 Today is PANS and PANDAS awareness day. Unless you have experience of this condition, child there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of it.

🔹 For some families, the onset can be sudden. A child who was previously happy and themselves can experience profound changes in their behaviour, emotions, eating, sleep, thoughts or movements. Sometimes these changes can occur almost over night.

🔹 For parents, watching your child change so dramatically can be completely heart-breaking and utterly devastating for the whole family.

👉🏻 PANS stands for Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome.

👉🏻 PANDAS stands for Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections.

➡️ Swipe for the symptoms.

Not all children will experience all symptoms and experiences can vary widely.

For families experiencing this, everyday life can become incredibly difficult. School, friendships, family life, sleep, mealtimes and simple daily routines can all be affected.

And alongside the challenges their child is experiencing, parents can find themselves navigating a healthcare system where understanding, diagnosis and access to appropriate support for PANS/PANDAS can vary widely. Along with appointments, uncertainty, worry and the emotional pain of watching their child struggle.

🥹 It can be an incredibly lonely and exhausting journey.

has a wealth of information and also runs a wonderful online community for parents.

For more information on the conditions take a look at the paspandas uk website.

🫶🏻 Today, we’re sending love to every child and family navigating this incredibly difficult journey.
