Three days to go until GCSE Results Day.
For many families, the wait brings the same questions:
What happens if my child misses a Grade 4?
What if the result is lower than predicted?
Should we request a review of marking?
Would a November resit be the right choice?
When should we arrange tuition?
Whatever the result, there will be a next step. The important thing is not to panic or rush into a decision before understanding the marks, the options and what the student genuinely needs.

One mark away from the grade you needed?
Before requesting a review of marking, it is important to understand what the process is actually designed to do.
A review is not simply a second examiner marking the work from scratch and choosing the mark they would personally have awarded.
The reviewer considers whether the original marking contained an error or an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement.
In a subject such as English, two standardised examiners may reasonably award slightly different marks. Different does not automatically mean wrong.
Ofqual’s guidance is clear: a reasonable mark should not be replaced simply because the reviewer might have awarded another reasonable mark.
Where a university place depends on the outcome, contact the school or college immediately so they can advise on the correct process and relevant deadlines.

Tomorrow is A-level Results Day!
To every student waiting: whatever appears on the page, take a breath before making any rushed decisions.
A grade can open one route and close another, but it does not define your intelligence, effort or future. There will be next steps, new options and people ready to help you work through them.
For tonight, be proud that you made it this far.
Good luck for tomorrow. 💜
