As the weapons, self defence lesson on Sunday at the beech community centre, basildon, was a success ,Iv decided to run the class prior to the kick boxing lesson in the future.
The class starts at 930-10,then the kick boxing 10-11
Beginners are welcome, either one class or both.
The weapons being taught will be basic ones that can be substituted for available items.

Thought for today for my students
I can’t put the fire in your belly
I can only give you a match
The danger of being a totally committed martial artist is the fire can get out of control and absorb our lives
But don’t reach for the extinguisher instead look for a set of scales to find a healthy balance
Unfortunately my scales broke
As the yin and yang symbol represents balance
Do and jutsu
Soft and hard
Looking for it is a start
The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step

Thank you everyone for my birthday wishes,I appreciate them ,even though I got "the elbow"from some I met.

Knowing that releasing endorphins will help keep you fit I am compelled to offer help
In the Far East when martial arts was banned students would practice their arts by hiding lethal movements in dance routines
When the samurai where forced to take other work some became farmers where they practiced their skills with such tools as the K**a used for cutting rice and grass
I’m willing to teach the grass cutting kata to selected students for free
It will help stances and arm strength I’m even willing to supply the tools

Just a update
Iv postponed the kickboxing grading until further notice,I think it would be unfair to expect my loyal black belts to attend and students to be in a quandary ,I will arrange a new date when we are given the all clear.
The beech hall is closed.
St.thomas,s is closed.
Not sure about eversley at moment but will keep updated .
Horndon probually closed, please check before Tuesday.
My do jo open for small groups ,no contact only bag and solo drills.
It's a good time to reflect on the martial arts whole picture, not just for fighting, respect for others, keeping positive ,helping when we can and read the poem ,IF,Rudyard Kipling.

Good morning,
It's been a while since I wrote a news letter ,but I have a bit of time on my hand at the moment.
I did not want to put on here that Iv just had a hip replacement,as it seemed boring and may come across as a plea for help.I then saw pictures of pets, egg and chips Sunday lunch ,so here goes.
Michael Cain once said to me "Jim,always turn a disadvantage into a advantage",I think he may have said it to one or two other people.
Having a second hip replacement is not the worst thing in the world but was not on my bucket list either, possibly caused by wrong exercises and striving to kick higher than my body type naturally allowed.Iv resolved that problem for my students by educating them and encouraging them to train with Marc Bowler one of my high grades who has been studying this aspect .
What I have Gained from this time that I do not normally have is the opportunity to tie up some loose ends with my notes and syllabus especially my own version of bu jutsu.
Iv have had the good fortune over the years to travel and train under many great teachers ,my bu jutsu syllabus gives me the opportunity to put the bits Iv remember and like under one umbrella .
At this point I'd like to give my thoughts about "styles"and systems.
My views are personal not general. To train and be loyal in one style of martial arts is great, beneficial, apart from the internal politics has direction ,and history.
To train in a less traditional system can be difficult, explaining that the art /system has not a Japanese name etc.,but can be as good.
My point is,find what you like and suets you, train hard and be a loyal good student.
One thing Iv realised is motivation,Iv been set of exercises to promote recovery,I hate them!!they hurt! and bore me,as a instructor Iv neglected the exercises which made me what I am,not a natural but stubborn,Iv gone back to that mode.
What I am learning is that in teaching we have to find a way to motivate our students,at certain grades we are awarded on our dedication and time put into the art,the standard of what we maintain is our responsibility.
I have students who can train on their own, others need pushing.Gradings or competition are good ways to motivate them, but what when they do not want to compete or take further gradings ? Something for me to think about.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank friends, students and family for their messages and visits, especially Jacqui, for her help and patience.
I'm writing a book about Bob Lawrence,I need as much Input as possible to give a overall picture of one of the greatest martial arts teacher in the world.Bob,not known for his social skills.....was a man of mystery ,how and where he got his knowledge from can not be tracked down to one source ,but he could teach, perform, invent almost any aspect of martial arts to a exceptional standard. So any experience or stories will be gratefully received.
I'm also helping another good friend to write his autobiography "Billy Blundell ",so again if you have a story about Bill can you either contact me or email me please.
Sitting with Bill is great, often his friends pop in,the stories they tell are hair curling and always funny, the problem is writing them down .so I need some help please, any story ,I'm trying to portray both sides of him,a tough villain with a heart of gold.
Ok enough for today, the good news is the sun is out,Iv a lovely garden, love getting a tan.
The bad news is ,I'm wearing surgical socks,so imagine brown top half of legs white bottom parts, look like a schoolgirl.
Also a Honda goldwing that I can't ride ,and convertable car that I can't drive, but I'm walking on one stick.
Iv just had a delivery of my book, the journey if interested.

Tuesday night is sparring at the Eversley centre Pitsea starts at seven all welcome
Controlled sparring !!🥊
Also the monthly lesson at horndon 830
My opinion on martial arts is it must be practical
Enjoyable
Spiteful
Respectful
With good ethics and manners
That’s why the yin and yang symbol is often used
Do and jutsu
This month as well as the hard side the lesson will include some advice regarding stretching from one of my black belts marc who has been studying new and advanced methods for some time
Hopefully students using his methods as opposed to the old heathen ways I taught will keep their original hips and knees
Any instructors or students from other styles are more than welcome to come along
Village hall opposite that swan pub

Firstly I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and secondly the sparring night at the Eversley centre who’s is normally on the first Tuesday of the month will be on the 8th Jan also the high grade night at Horndon will be on the 8th Jan. Thirdly the David Lloyd class on Sunday will now be at the Beech Community Centre on the Craylands Estate Basildon. Finally I Have been asked to start classes for ladies self defence and mature students, please let me know if you are interested in either. The class for mature students will be less gymnastic, however, it will be no less effective as I have compulated a system using aspects from various martial arts I have studied.

Change of plan,Kam’s container is now coming on Monday afternoon still needs as much help as possible

12/12/2018

Firstl, master kam has a container being delivered to his house on Friday at two o clock,Roberts road ,laindon,if anyone is free to help unload it will be greatly appreciated .It should only take a hour if a few turn up to help.
Secondly, the Christmas Eve drink is at the swan pub,Horndon on the hill, starts about 1230,anyone is welcome including children,it's a tradition that has been going on for forty years,a good opportunity to catch up and make new friends.
