Grief can manifest in various ways through loss, a change in environment, or health challenges. As an international student, these experiences can feel especially isolating.
UKCISA and the Student Grief Network have created a new webpage with practical advice from international students on coping with grief while studying abroad.
There’s also a free online workshop offering a supportive space to learn, listen, and, if you feel comfortable, share your own experience.
Visit the https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/student-advice/life-in-the-uk/dealing-with-grief-when-studying-abroad/ to learn more and https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dealing-with-loss-grief-a-workshop-for-international-students-tickets-1705462467149?aff=oddtdtcreator to register.
Adjusting to life in a new country comes with surprises.
A culture shock for UKCISA Student Ambassador Edeline was drinking water from the tap!
It’s completely normal to feel out of place in the beginning. Just knowing that others experience this too can make a big difference.
It might feel strange or even frustrating at first, but over time, you’ll find your way.

We have issued a statement on the recent government announcement warning students not to overstay their student visa.
This is not a new message. Overstaying on a student visa has always risked serious consequences.
We are seeking clarification on the details of the policies and the communications international students will receive from the government.

Beans on toast? Welsh Cawl? A cup of tea? Yes!
Culture shock is common among international students arriving in the UK.
From how people dress and speak to what they eat, you will notice differences from home.
It's perfectly normal to find it hard at first, but it's a temporary phase, and you’re not alone.
To navigate culture shock, it's helpful to stay in touch with home. Make friends with international students and take advantage of the support offered by your college or university.
Visit https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/student-advice/life-in-the-uk/facing-culture-shock/ for more information on facing culture shock.
